13 <br />VI. LIGHTING AND ELECTRICITY <br /> REQUIREMENTS <br />1 Electrical service to any Parklet or Sidewalk <br />Cafe must be included on the Applicant’s <br />plans and will be evaluated as part of <br />the Building Permit. Electrical extension <br />cords between a building and a Parklet or <br />Sidewalk Cafe are not allowed. <br />2 Decorative and festival style lighting is <br />encouraged and may be provided through <br />electrical connections to the building (as <br />noted above, this will be evaluated during <br />the Building Permit review process). Solar- <br />powered lighting is strongly encouraged. <br />3 Lighting shall not be directed towards <br />the Roadway to avoid causing glare for <br />vehicles. <br />4 Lighting, flags, decorations, and any other <br />Parklet or Sidewalk Cafe features shall not <br />be connected to trees, streetlights, sign <br />poles, or other City infrastructure. <br />5 Generators shall not be allowed on <br />Parklets or Sidewalk Cafes. <br />VII. HEATING DEVICES AND OPEN FLAME <br /> REQUIREMENTS <br />1 A fire department operational permit <br />is required for the storage and use of <br />liquefied petroleum (LP) gas, including <br />propane. The Applicant must denote <br />on their plans the location of the LP gas <br />heating devices as well as the location of <br />the gas storage, as this use includes a fee <br />that is separate from the Building Permit <br />fee and annual use of space fee. <br />2 Heating devices in a Parklet or Sidewalk <br />Cafe may be electric, propane, or natural <br />gas-powered, and shall meet the following <br />requirements: <br />a. Heating devices are prohibited under <br />fabric canopies, and membrane shade <br />structures. <br />b. A minimum 5-foot clearance shall be <br />provided between a building and the <br />heating device. <br />c. A minimum 10-foot clearance shall <br />be provided between combustible <br />materials and a heating device. <br />d. A minimum 5-foot clearance shall be <br />provided between entrances/exits to the <br />Parklet or Sidewalk Cafe and a heating <br />device. <br />e. A minimum 5-foot clearance shall be <br />provided above a heating device. <br />f. Propane or natural gas heating devices <br />shall have a tip-over switch that shuts <br />off the flow of gas. <br />g. Propane or natural gas heating devices <br />shall have a maximum of 20 pounds <br />capacity gas container. <br />3 Candles, open flames, as well as smoking <br />and vaping of tobacco and cannabis, are <br />prohibited within Parklets and Sidewalk <br />Cafes. <br />VIII. SIGNAGE REQUIREMENTS <br />1 Advertising and business signage, <br />including but not limited to umbrella <br />signage, is not permitted through the <br />Outdoor Business Activity Program. Any <br />proposed advertising and business signage <br />shall be submitted to the Planning Division <br />separately for review and approval via a <br />Sign Permit.
