14 Diagram 6: Roadway Parklet Clearances B REQUIREMENTS APPLICABLE TO PARKLETS ON ROADWAYS The following design standards and guidelines apply to Parklets on Roadways. For standards specific to Pedestrian Streets, see Section 4C. I. SIZE, SETBACK AND CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS 1 Size Requirements: On streets with curbside parking, Parklets may occupy 1-3 parking spaces; Parklets that occupy more than 3 parking spaces may be approved at the City’s discretion. 2 Setback and Clearance Requirements: Parklets on Roadways shall maintain the following minimum setbacks: a. 1 foot from the vehicular travel lane, measured from the parking striping adjacent to the travel lane. Where parking striping does not exist, the Applicant shall confirm with City staff the width of the travel lane measured from the street centerline and provide the setback from the identified travel lane edge. b. 1 foot from a bike lane c. 3 feet from an adjacent parking space (either parallel or diagonal). Where parking striping does not exist, the Applicant shall confirm with City staff the width and location of each parking space and shall measure the setback from the identified parking space location. d. A Parklet shall include at least one soft post and a wheel stop placed 2 feet from the edge of the Parklet on both ends of the Parklet. Reflective materials are encouraged. Reflective materials and soft posts are not traffic related and serve as visual cues to deter collisions with Parklet structures. e. On blocks with parallel or diagonal parking, no Parklet features such as seating or planters may be placed in the Buffer Zone adjacent to active parking spaces. f. For blocks with diagonal parking, the Buffer Zone must be a minimum of 3 feet parallel to the edge of curb.
