<br />25 <br /> <br />o to seek, obtain, or assist a family member to seek or obtain <br />psychological counseling or mental health services related to an <br />experience of a qualifying act of violence; <br />o to participate in safety planning or take other actions to increase <br />safety from future qualifying acts of violence; <br />o to relocate or engage in the process of securing a new residence due <br />to the qualifying act of violence, including, but not limited to, <br />securing temporary or permanent housing or enrolling children in a <br />new school or childcare; <br />o to provide care to a family member who is recovering from injuries <br />caused by a qualifying act of violence; <br />o to seek, obtain, or assist a family member to seek or obtain civil or <br />criminal legal services in relation to the qualifying act of violence; <br />o to prepare for, participate in, or attend any civil, administrative, or <br />criminal legal proceeding related to the qualifying act of violence; <br />or <br />o to seek, obtain, or provide childcare or care to a care-dependent adult <br />if the childcare or care is necessary to ensure the safety of the child <br />or dependent adult as a result of the qualifying act of violence. <br />o If an employee is a victim of a violent or serious felony crime, theft <br />or embezzlement; or if the employee has an immediate family <br />member, registered domestic partner or the registered domestic <br />partner’s child is a victim, the employee can use paid sick leave to <br />attend judicial proceedings related to that crime. <br /> <br />9.1.2 Except in cases of extreme emergency or exceptional unforeseen circumstances, <br />in order to receive compensation for absences charged to sick leave, the employee <br />shall notify their immediate supervisor no less than one-half (1/2) hour plus travel <br />time prior to the scheduled time for beginning their work duties of the impending <br />absence. At the same time, the employee shall provide the immediate supervisor <br />with a telephone number where they can be reached during the term of the absence. <br />The burden of proof of extreme emergency or exceptional unforeseen <br />circumstances shall be upon the employee. <br /> <br />9.1.3 Sick Leave <br />An employee may elect to receive compensation in lieu of sick leave credits for <br />any calendar year (based on the first twenty-six (26) pay periods in the calendar <br />year) by requesting payment of unused sick leave in writing to the Director of <br />Finance on or before December 1 of the prior year. <br /> <br />Payment shall be made at twenty-five percent (25%) of the unused sick leave hours <br />accrued in the calendar year. <br />6.H. - Page 33 of 72 <br />375
