<br />29 <br /> <br /> <br />9.6.3 The employee on leave shall be returned to an equivalent position within her <br />classification. <br /> <br />9.6.4 A pregnancy leave, absent physical disability, is granted without pay for the <br />duration of the leave. The employee may elect to continue medical and dental <br />insurance coverage for up to one (1) year during that leave at her own expense. <br /> <br />9.6.5 Family Medical Leave and Pregnancy Disability Leave will run concurrently with <br />Parental Leave as permitted by law. <br /> <br />9.7 Leave for Pregnancy Disability <br /> <br />9.7.1 Employees are entitled to use personal illness and injury leave for disabilities <br />caused or contributed to by pregnancy, miscarriage, childbirth, and recovery <br />therefrom on the same terms and conditions governing leaves of absence for <br />other illness or medical disability, and in accordance with the City’s policy on <br />Pregnancy Disability Leave, as periodically amended. Employees are entitled to <br />leave without pay for disabilities because of pregnancy, miscarriage, childbirth, <br />or recovery therefrom when sick leave has been exhausted. The length of such <br />disability leave, including the date on which the leave shall commence and the <br />date on which the duties are to be resumed, shall be determined by the employee <br />and the employee's physician; however, the Personnel Officer may require a <br />verification of the extent of disability through a physical examination of the <br />employee by a physician appointed by the City at City expense. <br /> <br />9.7.2 The employee on leave shall be returned to an equivalent position within her <br />classification. <br /> <br />9.8 Bereavement Leave <br /> <br />9.8.1 In the event of a death in the immediate family of an employee of the City, that <br />employee shall, upon request, be granted such time off with pay as is necessary <br />to make arrangements for the funeral and attend same, not to exceed forty (40) <br />regularly scheduled hours. For an employee who works forty (40) hours in fewer <br />than five (5) regularly scheduled working days, such employee may take <br />additional unpaid bereavement leave for a cumulative total of five (5) regularly <br />scheduled working days of bereavement leave; however, employees may use <br />accrued paid leave for the unpaid days. The bereavement leave may be taken <br />intermittently, but must be completed within three (3) months of the family <br />member’s date of death. <br /> <br />9.8.2 For the purpose of this provision, the immediate family shall be restricted to <br />parent, sibling, spouse, domestic partner, child, half-sibling, step sibling, parent- <br />in-law, grandparent, grandchild, and stepparent, stepchild in those cases where <br />direct child rearing-parental relationship may be demonstrated to have existed. <br /> <br />9.8.3 In the event of the death of an active City employee, the City will excuse (without <br />loss of pay) those employees who wish to attend the locally conducted funeral <br />only to the extent it does not interfere with the operation of the City. <br /> <br />6.H. - Page 37 of 72 <br />379
