REV: 04-29-25 LF <br />STEERING COLUMN/ WHEEL <br />The cab shall include a Douglas Autotech steering column which shall include a seven (7) position <br />tilt, a 2.25 inch telescopic adjustment, and an 18.00 inch, four (4) spoke steering wheel located at <br />the driver’s position. The steering wheel shall be covered with black polyurethane foam padding. <br />The steering column shall contain a horn button, self-canceling turn signal switch, four-way hazard <br />switch and headlamp dimmer switch. <br />ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL INDICATOR <br />The power steering fluid shall be monitored electronically and shall send a signal to activate an <br />audible alarm and visual warning in the instrument panel when fluid level falls below normal. <br />POWER STEERING PUMP <br />The hydraulic power steering pump shall be a TRW PS and shall be gear driven from the engine. <br />The pump shall be a balanced, positive displacement, sliding vane type. The power steering <br />system shall include an oil to air passive cooler. <br />FRONT AXLE CRAMP ANGLE <br />The chassis shall have a front axle cramp angle of 45-degrees to the left and 43-degrees to the <br />right. <br />POWER STEERING GEAR <br />The power steering gear shall be a TRW model TAS 85 with an assist cylinder. <br />CHASSIS ALIGNMENT <br />The chassis frame rails shall be measured to ensure the length is correct and cross checked to <br />make sure they run parallel and are square to each other. The front and rear axles shall be laser <br />aligned. The front tires and wheels shall be aligned and toe-in set on the front tires by the chassis <br />manufacturer. <br />REAR AXLE <br />The rear axle shall be a Meritor model RS-30-185 single drive axle. The axle shall include <br />precision forged, single reduction differential gearing, and shall have a fire service rated capacity <br />of 33,000 pounds. <br />The axle shall be built of superior construction and quality components to provide the rugged <br />dependability needed to stand up to the fire industry’s demands. The axle shall include <br />rectangular shaped, hot-formed housing with a standard wall thickness of 0.56 of an inch for extra <br />strength and rigidity and a rigid differential case for high axle strength and reduced maintenance. <br />The axle shall have heavy-duty Hypoid gearing for longer life, greater strength and quieter <br />operation.
