Street Banner Installations
Placemaking activities and initiatives help identify
boundaries, invite and orient visitors, strengthen
neighborhood pride, and reinforce the district’s
brand. This year, the RCIA continued its support
for district identity and beautification by bringing
back the Fall and Winter banners, as well as the
newly designed Spring and Summer banners.
These seasonal banners brought beauty and
vitality to the streets of downtown all year long.
Additionally, from September through November,
the RCIA honored local Veterans with a banner
campaign that hung throughout downtown for
Veterans Day. These banners recognized all six
branches of the military: Air Force, Army, Coast
Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and Space Force. The
RCIA invested an additional $20K in the purchase
of new Veterans Day banners and flags for display
throughout Downtown Redwood City.
Holiday Activities & Décor
Holiday cheer filled the streets of Downtown
Redwood City this year through the return of
several celebrations and increased décor in
Courthouse Square. The RCIA invested $30K
in holiday décor that included oversized bows
adorning streetlights, holiday banners and lights
throughout downtown and much more. The
RCIA, in partnership with the City of Redwood
City, also invested an additional $38K to restring
one of the two large trees at Hamilton and
Broadway – the same tree locals and visitors
see illuminate the night at the annual holiday
tree lighting at Courthouse Square. In addition,
the RCIA welcomed back the Merrie Old
Christmas Carolers who led the community in
cheerful singing for two nights during the holiday
season. Several other holiday happenings were
shared with the community across social media,
newsletters and to media publications.
2023 ANNUAL REPORT • PAGE 9
6.D. - Page 14 of 21
93
