All connections in manholes shall be constructed with PVC half channel, where
possible or with concrete channels directed toward the outlet pipe as shown and
detailed on the plans.
C. All PVC and HDPE pipe entering or leaving a manhole shall have a rubber sealing
gasket as supplied by the pipe manufacturer, firmly seated perpendicular to the
pipe axis, around the pipe exterior and cast into the structure base or near the wall
center as a water stop. Water stop may also consist of a manhole coupling with
rubber sealing rings cast into the structure base.
D. Use PVC manhole adapters in cored-out holes in manholes for connecting new
PVC pipe and grout all around to prevent ground water infiltration. Pipes shall be
cut off flush with the inside surface of the manhole.
E. HDPE anchors or flex restraint device shall be installed after the pipe has been
installed and relaxed in the entire length of the sewer section. The pipe shall
protrude in the manholes for enough distance to allow sealing and trimming.
F. Precast manhole installation shall conform to Section 02 7350 of these
specifications.
G. Use 2-foot nominal lengths of PVC pipe when entering and leaving manholes and
structures.
H. All ends of sanitary sewers provided for future connection as directed be the CITY
shall be plugged with “Polycap” stoppers providing the same joint characteristics
as specified for the sanitary sewer main or lateral.
3.03 ABANDONMENT OF EXISTING SANITARY SEWER MAIN
A. CONTRACTOR shall submit proposed plans, methods and procedures for CITY
approval, regarding the abandonment of existing sanitary sewer main by concrete
slurry filling. Sanitary sewer main shall be CCTV for active laterals, coordinate with the CITY of
the results and reconnect all active laterals prior to concrete slurry fill.
C. Gravity sewer or force mains to be abandoned shall be plugged with mortar and
an eight inch (8”) thick concrete brick wall. The CONTRACTOR shall fully fill the
voids of the existing sanitary sewer main to be abandoned with the CITY approved
concrete slurry mix design.
