City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org
The forum featured comprehensive discussions on critical topics, including:
• Learning of the Emergency
• Escaping the Emergency
• Outlasting the Emergency
• Recovering from the Emergency
These vital topics were presented through panel discussions featuring representatives from a diverse
range of expert organizations committed to public safety and well-being. Participants included:
• Redwood City Police Department
• San Mateo County Department of Emergency Management
• American Red Cross
• Center for Independence of Individuals with Disabilities
• United Policy Holders
• Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT)
• San Mateo County Health
• Catholic Charities’ Disaster Case Management program
Redwood City proudly earned the AARP/WHO Age-Friendly Community designation in 2020 and finalized
its comprehensive Age-Friendly Action Plan in 2023. This designation signifies Redwood City's
commitment to creating a more livable and supportive environment for residents of all ages, with a
particular emphasis on older adults. The AARP Age-Friendly Community initiative provides a framework
for communities to adapt their policies, services, and structures, empowering older adults to remain
active, engaged, and independent.
ANALYSIS
The new SAC Commission two-year work plan reflects similar goals from the last two-year work plan. For
Fiscal Years 2025-2027, the SAC work plan includes the following four goals:
Housing: Increase Communication to Seniors About Housing Services in Redwood City.
Housing and Transportation have always been the two main strategic priorities of the Senior Affairs
Commission. Past commissions have invited local housing and transportation agencies to come speak and
present at commission meetings. The SAC recognized that having speakers come to the meeting would
not only consume valuable meeting time but if seniors didn’t attend a commission meeting, they would
not receive information intended for them.
Club 1333:
The idea behind Club 1333 is to create a collaborative forum that directly links seniors (65+) with essential
community programs and resources provided by valued non-profit organizations, government partners,
and community stakeholders. Recognizing the challenges of economic stability and access to housing,
food, and financial assistance for seniors who prefer non-digital communication, this initiative aims to
foster a direct and supportive dialogue between community partners and senior residents.
8.B. - Page 4 of 48
61
