The "I am not familiar with any of these services" option was chosen by a very similar number
of respondents as the most-known service, SamTrans Redi Wheels, highlighting a near-even
split between awareness and a complete lack of awareness.
Other Services
Awareness of other services is very low, with most being known by less than 10% of
respondents.
Services like Senior Helpers, Avenidas Door to Door, Midpoint Caltrain Shuttle, and
Home Care California are known by 5% or fewer of the respondents.
Summary
The survey results highlight a critical need for increased outreach and information dissemination
regarding senior transportation options in Redwood City. While some services like SamTrans Redi
Wheels have a decent level of recognition, a significant portion of the senior population is unaware of
the assistance available to them.
12. How do you normally find information about various transportation possibilities?
Respondents overwhelmingly rely on digital sources and their personal networks to find
information about transportation. Traditional media and public resources are used much less
frequently.
Key Findings
The most common method for finding transportation information is using the internet or
computer, with 49% of respondents (91 people) choosing this option. This highlights the
importance of online accessibility.
The second most popular method is through family or friends, cited by 44% of respondents
(81 people). This underscores the significant role of personal relationships in information
sharing.
Word of mouth is also a key source, used by 31% of respondents (57 people). Combined
with "Family or friends," this shows that informal social networks are a primary channel for
information.
Local newspaper is a distant fourth at 15%, while other traditional media like TV and Radio
are used by 5% or less.
The least common sources are radio and public library computers, each used by less than
5% of respondents.
Conclusion
The survey results suggest that to effectively disseminate information about transportation services, a
strategy should focus on a combination of digital platforms and leveraging social networks. Relying on
traditional media alone would likely fail to reach much of this population.
8.B. - Page 17 of 48
74
