However, a notable number <br />of respondents (18%) earn between $80,000 and $100,000, and 10% earn between $136,000 <br />and $200,000. <br />Race, Gender, and Education <br />70% of respondents identified as Caucasian/White, followed by Hispanic or Latino at 19%, <br />and Asian at 9%. Other racial/ethnic categories each represent 3% or less of the respondents. <br />The survey population is predominantly female, with 77% of respondents identifying as <br />female and 22% identifying as male. <br />The survey population is highly educated: 76% of respondents have completed at least <br />some higher education, and a combined 50% hold a bachelor's or master's degree. <br />Veterans and Preferred Language <br />A large majority of respondents (92%) are not veterans, while 8% identified as veterans. <br />85% of respondents chose English as their preferred language, followed by Spanish at <br />12%. <br />Analysis of the Transportation Survey: <br />Key Findings <br />Driving is the Dominant Mode of Transportation <br />High Rates of Driving: Most respondents (83%) have an active driver's license, and a <br />significant majority (82%) drive at least once a week. Driving alone is the most common form <br />of transportation for all activities, including shopping, medical appointments, and social <br />outings. <br />Driving Avoidance: While most seniors drive, many avoid specific situations like heavy traffic <br />(58%) and driving at night (51%). <br />Reasons for Avoiding Public Transportation: The top reason people avoid public transit is <br />simply a preference for driving, with 46% of respondents stating, "I drive everywhere." Other <br />key reasons include long travel times and inconvenient routes. <br />Awareness of Senior Transportation Services is Low <br />Lack of Familiarity: A significant portion of seniors (42%) are not familiar with any of the free <br />or low-cost transportation services available to them.
