Bollards
The survival and prosperity of Downtown
Redwood City businesses remains a top priority.
In a joint effort to create a safer, more pedestrian-
friendly environment, the RCIA and the City
of Redwood City invested over $500,000 in
2021 for the installation of surface-mounted,
sliding bollards on both ends of Theatre Way.
Completed in April 2024, this permanent barrier
system significantly enhances pedestrian safety
while also enabling more vibrant and accessible
outdoor dining and retail experiences. These
improvements directly support the many
restaurants and shops that define the heart of
Downtown Redwood City, helping create a more
welcoming and thriving destination for residents
and visitors alike.
Street Banner Installations
Placemaking activities and initiatives help identify
boundaries, invite and orient visitors, strengthen
neighborhood pride, and reinforce the district’s
brand. This year, the RCIA continued its support
for district identity and beautification by bringing
back the Fall and Winter banners, as well as
the bright Spring and Summer banners. These
seasonal banners brought beauty and vitality to
the streets of downtown all year long.
Additionally, from September through November,
the RCIA honored local veterans with a banner
campaign that hung throughout downtown for
Veterans Day. These banners recognized all six
branches of the military: Air Force, Army, Coast
Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and Space Force.
PAGE 8 • 2024 ANNUAL REPORT
HIGHLIGHTS CONTINUED
Influencer Partnerships
The RCIA partnered with Bay Area influencers
to promote Downtown Redwood City through
engaging social media activations. In collaboration
with @bayarea_buzz, they curated a “Day in
Downtown Redwood City” experience that
highlighted local businesses, dining, and activities.
The RCIA also teamed up with @snackateriansf
to create a custom foodie tour, which she
featured in her content. These activations
generated significant views and engagement,
driving increased brand awareness for the RCIA
and boosting overall visibility for Downtown
Redwood City and its business community.
8.A. - Page 12 of 33
24
