It is widely used by law enforcement as a defensive weapon and by the public for <br />target shooting, hunting and self-defense. The Model 870 features a bottom-loading, side <br />ejecting receiver, tubular magazine under the barrel, dual action bars, internal hammer, and a <br />bolt which locks into and extension in the barrel. A pump action is a repeating firearm action <br />that is operated manually by moving a sliding handguard on the gun’s fore stock. When <br />shooting, the sliding forend is pulled reward to eject any expended cartridge and to cock the <br />hammer/striker, and then pushed forward to load a new cartridge into the chamber. This <br />action is required for each cartridge to be fired. The Remington Model 870P breaching <br />shotgun is a pump action shotgun firing a specialized 12 gauge round designed to disable <br />door hinges, latches and locks. It has an 11 inch fixed choke barrel and a 3 round magazine, <br />with a pistol grip stock and parkerized finish. <br />Purpose/Authorized Uses: These devices are only used by the SRT team during critical <br />incidents or planned operations. They fire a specialized round designed to defeat the hinges, <br />locks or latching mechanisms of doors to gain entry into locations under exigent <br />circumstances. <br />Fiscal Impacts: This device was acquired from the San Carlos Police Departmental at no <br />cost. It requires minimal upkeep and maintenance. <br />Legal/Procedural Rules Governing Use: Deployed in accordance with all applicable State, <br />Federal and Local laws governing police use of force. Applicable Redwood City Policies <br />related to Firearms. <br />Training Required: Only trained members of the SRT team are authorized to deploy this <br />device.
