This breaching tool employs the best of physics in the form of a self-
contained impact ram with powder-actuated cartridges that go directly into a door or
entryway. The KBT captures the force of the ram within the tool, ensuring that no projectile or
explosive energy leaves the device. The KBT also increases operator safety by allowing
operators to breach from behind a shield or to the side of the door. This is a ready-to-use
device that can completely replace explosive and hydraulic breaching, battering rams, and
other manual forced entry techniques that drain valuable time and energy from your tactical
unit.
Purpose/Authorized Uses: This device is used to safely gain entry into a structure by the
SRT team during training, critical incidents or planned operations.
Fiscal Impacts: Initial cost was $12,500.00. It is estimated to cost between $0 and $1,000
annually to maintain.
Legal/Procedural Rules Governing Use: All applicable State, Federal and Local laws
governing police use of force. Various Redwood City Police Department Policies on Use of
Force and SRT Operation policies.
Training Required: Only trained members of the SRT team are authorized to deploy this
device. Designated members of the SRT Team attend a certified breaching course and
oversee the use of this tool when deployed.
Other Notes: None.
8.G. - Page 24 of 44
392
