Kostura, 839 Blandford Boulevard evaluation <br />The following elements are not contributors: <br />* All vinyl window sash <br />* Non-original doors. <br />* Details in the stucco-clad areas of the north and south wings. Although the wings <br />themselves are contributors, because they emphasize the broadly horizontal feeling of the <br />house, the details in these areas are bland and do not contribute to the house’s Colonial <br />Revival Ranch style. <br />* The small, southwest patio. <br />* All obviously recent landscape features. <br />Some of the trees in the front yard or along the street may date to the time of construction and <br />should perhaps be considered as contributors. Such planted features are beyond the scope of this <br />report. If needed, a landscape architectural historian should be consulted to determine if they are <br />important landscape elements. <br />Application of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation of <br />Historic Properties <br />The proposed project consists of the following: <br />North wing, front: The front wall of the southernmost part of this wing, where vertical wood <br />siding, a paneled door, and one window are now, is to be removed. It will be replaced by a 3’-6” <br />projection that is coated in stucco, with a glass door and two wooden windows with sills. <br />North wing: The large roll-up garage door will be replaced by a new paneled garage door. The <br />opening will remain the same size. <br />North wing: The small garage door (to the right of the large one mentioned above) will be <br />replaced by a wooden paired casement window. It will be surrounded by brick that nearly but <br />not quite exactly matches the color of the surrounding brick. <br />North wing: The vinyl window to the right of the small garage door will be removed and the <br />opening will be filled in with brick that nearly but not quite exactly matches the color of the <br />surrounding brick. <br />South wing: A stucco-clad addition is to be made to the end of this wing.
