Page 2 of 5 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org <br />BACKGROUND <br />The City Council has directed each City Board, Commission, and Committee (BCC) to prepare a new <br />two- year work plan for City Council review and approval. The purpose of the work plan is to align BCC <br />work with the City Council’s Strategic Initiatives and priorities, which include Equity as a foundational <br />guiding principle, as well as Housing, Transportation and Children and Youth. <br />The general objectives of the Arts Commission are to ensure that art, culture and creative experiences <br />are woven into the fabric of the community by advocating for art and culture awareness, sponsoring <br />arts and culture through grants, and facilitating public art and events. <br />On October 2, 2023, the City Council approved the Arts Commission FY 2023-2024 and FY 2024-2025 <br />Work Plan that included: <br />1. Advocate for visual art and cultural awareness <br />Complete the creation of a new commission webpage <br />Status (In Progress/Ongoing): Commissioners have gathered content and working with staff <br />on the website layout. <br />Enhance and launch the public art map/online app <br />Status (Completed): Relaunched “RWC Tours” and hosted an art walk tour using the new App. <br />Increase social media presence by posting a minimum of two posts per month <br />Status (Ongoing): Commissioners continue to spread the word of past, present, and future <br />highlights from the Arts Commission. <br />Develop nonprofit grant outreach plan and build out our database <br />Status (Ongoing): A local commission contact database has been created and is continually <br />being updated. <br />2. Sponsor arts and culture through grants and events <br />Allocate large and small grants that meet equitable standards of the Commission and <br />embrace the Commission’s priorities <br />Status (Completed): Awarded 28 Large Grants and 9 small grants to non-profit organizations <br />supporting arts and cultural programming, events, visual and performing arts activities in <br />Redwood City. <br />Improve the Commission Grant Outreach by increasing the percentage of small and large <br />grant applications <br />Status (Ongoing/Completed): Commission has reached out to Redwood city schools and <br />encouraged youth art programs to apply for commission grants. <br />Host at least one event per year and participate at least twice a year at community events <br />Status (Completed): Hosted the relaunch of the RWC Tours Art & History application and <br />provided a community art walk tour. <br />9.A. - Page 2 of 15 <br />121
