This
alternative removes conflict between bicycles and vehicles and will provide alternate access and
connection to low-stress bicycle facilities at eastern segment of the Project.
2.Collision history: Per Redwood City police data, this corridor has experienced a relatively high
number of traffic collisions in the past few years, indicating a need for targeted safety
improvements.
3.Cost considerations: The cost difference between the Alternatives A and B is approximately
$500,000, and this cost differential did not materially affect staff’s recommendation.
4.Community input: Survey results indicate strong community support for Alternative B,
with 74% of respondents identifying it as their preferred option.
Next Steps
After City Council approval of the recommended Alternative, staff will issue a Request for Proposal (RPP)
for 100 percent PS&E4. Table 2 shows the draft project schedule. Due to HIP funding requirements, the
Project needs (National Environmental Quality Act) NEPA clearance and Right of Way (ROW) certificate
prior to construction bidding.
Table 2: Project Tentative Schedule
Phase Estimated Timeframe
City Council Approval of the
Alternative January 2026
Design RFP January 2026
Approval of the PS&E Contract March 2026
Development of PS&E Documents Spring-Fall 2026
NEPA and CEQA Process Winter-Spring 2026
ROW Certification Summer 2026
Construction Bidding Early 2027
Construction Summer-Fall 2027
During the finalization of the design documents, staff will work with community to incorporate feasible
design modifications to the design.
