REV: 12-03-25 LR
be waived or reimbursed for this project. The geotechnical subconsultant shall obtain a
drilling permit from the San Mateo County Environmental Health Department, if required.
Traffic control will be required for collecting the pavement cores. One travel lane may have
to be closed while drilling. City will allow a typical traffic control for all locations. Time and
date of lane closure shall be coordinated with the City and County.
It is planned to locate the borings in the middle of the street to reduce the impact on the
street parking, and there should be fewer utilities. The geotechnical subconsultant’s field
engineer shall mark the boring locations and contact the Underground Service Alert (USA) for
utility clearance. A private utility locator and removing the USA marking are not included in
the scope.
-Field Exploration: The geotechnical subconsultant will drill a total of four (4) borings to about
5 feet and collect pavement cores and bulk samples. The geotechnical subconsultant’s field
engineer shall classify and log the subsurface soil conditions encountered in the test borings
at the time of drilling. The actual boring locations are subject to utility conflicts and permit
conditions.
The geotechnical subconsultant may engage a vendor to provide traffic control during
pavement coring.
The GPS coordinates will be recorded by using the cellphone. The borings will be grouted by
using neat cement and AC cold patch. No special treatment of the asphalt surface, hot asphalt
or saw cutting/and capping is anticipated. It is anticipated that the field exploration will be
completed between regular business hours.
Private Utility Locator, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Testing, and Non-Destructive
Deflection Testing are not part of this scope of work. If drilling activities take longer due to
unforeseen conditions, an additional budget may be needed and will be discussed with the
City Engineer or their designee.
-Laboratory Testing: Laboratory tests shall be performed on representative soil samples, such
as moisture contents, densities, particle size analyses, and plasticity index (basic soil
characteristics). Up to two (2) R-value tests will be performed for pavement design.
-Geotechnical Report: The geotechnical subconsultant shall prepare a report to summarize
the findings, including pavement sections, core photographs, and subgrade conditions
collected from the field explorations. A draft report shall be submitted for the City Engineer’s
ATTY/AGR.2025.333/Kimley-Horn (Bay Road Complete Streets) (Page 17 of 50)
