PROPOSED <br />NEW JOB DESCRIPTION <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />TRANSPORTATION MANAGER <br />DEFINITION <br />Under the general direction of the Engineering and Transportation Director, plans, <br />organizes, oversees, coordinates, and reviews the work of staff performing professional, <br />technical, and administrative support related to the City’s transportation and traffic <br />management programs; oversees traffic operations, mobility planning, pa rking <br />management, pavement management, traffic calming, traffic safety, and transportation <br />demand management programs; ensures compliance with applicable Federal, State, and <br />local regulations; develops and implements short- and long-term transportation plans, <br />policies, projects; manages the effective use of division resources to improve <br />organizational productivity, mobility, and community safety; provides highly complex and <br />responsible support to the Engineering and Transportation Director and other City <br />leadership in areas of expertise; and performs related work as required. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br />This is a division manager classification that manages all activities of the Transportation <br />Division within the Engineering and Transportation Department. The incumbent organizes <br />and oversees day-to-day operations related to traffic engineering, multimodal <br />transportation planning, parking and curb management, pavement management, traffic <br />calming, and traffic safety initiatives. Responsibilities include performing diverse, <br />specialized, and complex work involving significant accountability and decision -making <br />responsibility. Successful performance of the work requires extensive professional <br />experience in traffic engineering and transportation planning, as well as skill in <br />coordinating division work. This class is distinguished from the Engineering and <br />Transportation Director in that the latter has overall responsibility for all functions of the <br />department and for developing, implementing, and interpreting public policy relevant to <br />department operations. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives general direction from the Engineering and Transportation Director.
