PROPOSED NEW JOB DESCRIPTION CITY OF REDWOOD CITY TRANSPORTATION MANAGER DEFINITION Under the general direction of the Engineering and Transportation Director, plans, organizes, oversees, coordinates, and reviews the work of staff performing professional, technical, and administrative support related to the City’s transportation and traffic management programs; oversees traffic operations, mobility planning, pa rking management, pavement management, traffic calming, traffic safety, and transportation demand management programs; ensures compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local regulations; develops and implements short- and long-term transportation plans, policies, projects; manages the effective use of division resources to improve organizational productivity, mobility, and community safety; provides highly complex and responsible support to the Engineering and Transportation Director and other City leadership in areas of expertise; and performs related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is a division manager classification that manages all activities of the Transportation Division within the Engineering and Transportation Department. The incumbent organizes and oversees day-to-day operations related to traffic engineering, multimodal transportation planning, parking and curb management, pavement management, traffic calming, and traffic safety initiatives. Responsibilities include performing diverse, specialized, and complex work involving significant accountability and decision -making responsibility. Successful performance of the work requires extensive professional experience in traffic engineering and transportation planning, as well as skill in coordinating division work. This class is distinguished from the Engineering and Transportation Director in that the latter has overall responsibility for all functions of the department and for developing, implementing, and interpreting public policy relevant to department operations. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general direction from the Engineering and Transportation Director. Exercises direct and general supervision over assigned professional, technical, and administrative support staff.
