4 <br />Redwood City resident lives within easy and safe walking distance of a park or community space,” and <br />Goal BC-3, which is to “ensure that public places evolve to meet the needs of changing city demographics <br />and public interests and are accessible to all members of the community.” Redwood City made progress <br />on numerous projects in 2025, including the following: <br />Continued construction of the new Veterans Memorial Senior Center in Red Morton Park. The <br />City anticipates that final inspections of the building will be completed in early 2026, with a soft <br />opening to the public tentatively planned to occur by the end of March 2026. The 45,000 sq. ft. <br />Center will include the following: <br />o 299-seat theater <br />o Catering and food demonstration kitchen <br />o Welcoming lobby for social gatherings <br />o Exhibit space honoring veterans <br />o NFL alumni exhibit space <br />o Pickleball and half-court basketball gymnasium <br />o Wellness and adaptive physical education studios <br />o Roof top garden and walking track <br />o Various conferencing and administrative spaces for City staff and a host of non-profit <br />organizations that partner with the City to provide numerous community services. <br />In November 2025 the City approved—in partnership with the YMCA of Silicon Valley—a new <br />YMCA recreational facility in Red Morton Park. The YMCA submitted building permits for the <br />facility in December 2025, which are currently under review. The 36,000 sq. ft. facility will include <br />the following: <br />o Health and wellness center with exercise machines, weightlifting machines, free weights, <br />and space to host exercise and stretching classes <br />o Aquatic center with an indoor pool and an outdoor pool <br />o Daycare facility <br />o Flexible multi-use room for classes and meetings <br />The City approved plans for the renovation of Hoover Park and approved a construction contract <br />with a contractor. <br />The City completed the Preferred Plan for a new Downtown Library Park and began design <br />development and environmental review for the project. <br />In July 2025, the City continued construction on the Jardín de Niños Park Expansion Project, <br />including the installation of an overhead trellis structure that will function as a community space <br />for outdoor classes. Artist-fabricated cladding for the structure and the perimeter fencing are <br />currently being installed, and the park expansion is anticipated to open to the public in spring <br />2026. <br />The City completed two major turf replacement projects at Mitchell Field in Red Morton Park and <br />at Fair Oaks Field.
