While local <br />6 Floor area ratio (FAR) is a measurement of development capacity using floor area measured in square footage <br />(sq. ft.). The ratio reflects the maximum permitted gross floor area of a building or buildings in relation to the lot <br />area. For example, a 10,000 sq. ft. lot with a 2.0 FAR could develop a 20,000 sq. ft. building. <br />7 SB 79 requires that the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), as the metropolitan planning <br />organization (MPO) for the San Francisco Bay Area, produce a map of the areas where SB 79 applies.
