Mitigation Measure REC-l b: Restore Recreational Facilities to Pre-Construction
Condition

Impact REC-lc: The Project would physically degrade recreational facilities by removing
or damaging existing recreational facilities directly.

The proposed Project would affect play structures, paved play areas, and turf areas/ball fields at
James L. Bunker Elementary School; at least three play structures and several mature trees next
to the play structures would be removed to accommodate construction. Although Standard
Constroction Measure No. 10 would require the reseeding and repaving of this facility, the
SFPUC is not proposing to replace any recreational structures as part of its Project description.
Therefore, the pennanent removal of these recreational structures would constitute a significant
impact on recreational facilities at this location.

. Mitigation Measure REC-l a: Notify Local Jurisdictions and Lease-Holders
. Mitigation Measure REC-l b: Restore Recreational Facilities to Pre-Construction
Condition

Impact REC-2b: The Project would cause environmental impacts that would result in
deterioration of the quality of the recreational experience.

On the western side of the Bay, part of the Bay Tunnel would be constructed next to the
Ravenswood Open Space Preserve and the San Francisco Bay Trail. The Ravenswood tunnel
shaft would be situated between the parks and trails, and the tunnel itself would be constructed
entirely beneath the Bay. Therefore, Project construction, as proposed, would not remove or
disrupt the recreational facilities or access to such facilities within the Preserve. However,
because Project construction would be located approximately 600 feet from the closest potential
recreational activity, recreational experience at the Preserve could be impacted by Project
construction. III addition, construction noise could impact users of the San Francisco Bay Trail.
Any pile driving performed at the construction area, for example, would create a loud, repetitious
noise that could be annoying and distu.rbing. Therefore, construction noise could significantly
degrade the quality of the recreational experience at the Ravenswood Open Space Preserve and
San Francisco Bay Trail.

.
