7B Page 42 4. What are the Alliance's Strengths Virtually every interviewee's first answer to this ques- tion was Christine and the staff. followed closely by praise for the Board. This is not usual and it's dear that almost everyone genuinely felt that the Executive Direc- tor and the staff are doing a very good job. This was reflected in the other strengths mentioned which mainly depended on high quality of staff work I.e. the Alliance's programs and outreach and reputation. 5. What are the Alliance's weaknesses? When asked this question most people had to think long and hard before answering. Many people answered that there were no significant weaknesses. Once again lack of funding, clarity about role and focus were the main answers with issues about internal capacity and not enough people knowing about the Alliance's work also being mentioned as weaknesses. 6. What Opportunities are Open to the Alllancel The most usual answer to this question came In the form of some sort of new program, ranging from senior shuttles, working with schools and colleges to various ideas for getting Involved at the early stages of new devel- opments in the County. New funding sources were seen as an opportunity and people also pointed out that working with others to streamline operations and to deal with new developments could both be opportunities in the future. 7. What are the Threats facing the Alllancel Funding and the economy were far and away the biggest threat that people mentioned, with the question of duplication of work with other agencies and pressures on staff also being seen as possible threat. 8. What are the Alliance's Main Achievements over the past few years? People spoke extremely highly of the shuttle programs, general congestion reduction programs and the great work done by staff in the realm of outreach and brand- ing. Generally people thought that the Alliance was Increasingly well known in the County. Again. the staff was highly praised and the relationships built between the staff, the board and the community were mentioned as a significant achievement. 9. What have been the Alliance's Failures over the past few years? As with the question about the Alliance's weaknesses, people had a hard time thinking up any recent failures. The issue of lack of capacity leading to the inability as well as they'd like was the most frequently mentioned item and it's worth noting that these comments came from the staff rather than other people questioned. 10. What 15 your Programmatic Vision for the Alliance? This was the first direct question asking people what programs they thought the Alliance should be Involved with and how they should work. Once again. new pro- grams working with senior shuttles. community shuttles and schoolchildren were mentioned, while Improving and spreading current services was more important for others.
