6.2A
. Page 15
The proposed proi ect consists of an unbuilt bike route through multiple 1urisdictions.
which extends from Redwood City to San Carlos and continues into Belmont. The
proiect on the southern end will connect with the existing Bay Trail bike path at the end
of Skyway Road. adiacent to Highway 101. to Redwood Shores Parkway where existing
bike lanes are available for east/west travel. In addition a continuation of this north/south
route adiacent to Highway 101 will be installed on Shoreway Road. This proiect will add
approximately 1.6 miles of new bike route. It will include the addition of new bike route
signs and sharrows on Skyway Road over its full length. It will also include new bike
lane improvements for Shoreway Road and intersection improvements for the
intersection of Redwood Shores Parkway and Shoreway Road! Airport Way.

ACCESS

Access is provided to destination: School

Regional Transit

Regional Activity CenterlBusiness District

Connection across County linelbarrier

Located in a Priority Development Area (PDA)

How does the proj ect provide access to the specific destination? Explain:

The Skyway/Shoreway Bike Route Improvement proiect will close an existing gap of the
Regional Bike Network and the Bay Trail that is between the existing Class I bike path
next to the auxiliary lane of US 101 that terminates at the end of Skyway Road and route
that is planned around the southern side of the San Carlos Airport but is inaccessible due
to the airport regulations. The Regional Bike Network and Bay Trail are re--established at
the end of Twin Dolphin drive. The current unimproved route is used by both commute
and recreational bicycle riders. Cyclists are forced to travel along Skyway Road to
Redwood Shores Parkway and further north on Shoreway road sharing travel lanes with
motorists. with no signage alerting drivers of their presence.

This proiect provides recreational access through the San Francisco Bay Trail connection
and a completed route on the eastside of Highway 101 has potential to encourage
additional commute cycling to several of the large employers in that area.. such as Oracle
and Electronic Arts.

PROJECT READINESS

At what stage is the design of the project?

Preliminary design for the proiect has been completed. Once funding is secure the City
will share the project design with representatives from the local cyclist community and
solicit their input on the design of the pr01ect. The city will then incorporate their input
to address any concerns or additions the bike community feels are necessary for the final
design. The project design will be finalized after review with the local cyclist community
and prior to programming the funds.
