Consideration may also be given to recognized <br /> <br />private industry salary surveys conducted under professional <br /> <br />standards. <br /> <br />The rates of pay for each job shall be presented in tabular <br /> <br />form, ranked from highest maximum step to lowest maximum <br /> <br />step. Pro- <br /> <br />fcssional judgment in inspection of the salary d~ta shall <br /> <br />be used to determine what the prevailing rat.es of pny are <br /> <br />in the labor market area, and the level of pay needed to <br /> <br />maintain a strongly competi ti ve posi tion for Redviood City. <br /> <br />The b~nch mark classes to be .used for salary comparisons <br /> <br />shall be chosen on the basis of the following guides: <br /> <br />1. The bench mark class shall usually be the entry or <br /> <br />lIjourneymanll level within an occupatio.nal group. <br /> <br />2. The class should be ~eadily and precisely defined. <br /> <br />3. It should be a class significantly located within the <br /> <br />City's classification plan in terms of the ei1se of <br /> <br />comparing it with other classes that represent similar <br /> <br />skills, or that represent higher or lesser levels of <br /> <br />skill in the same line of work. <br /> <br />4. There should usually be a substantial number. of employees <br /> <br />in the class in Redwood City. <br />
