As a member of the Operating Engineers Local #3, he also spoke in favor of <br />the project. <br /> <br />Mary Meyer spoke in favor of the review process of the proposed DMS project. She spoke <br />about the need for more safe places for youth and families, such as parks, schools, and an <br />environment to foster positive youth development. <br /> <br />Sill Van Cleve, President of the board of trustees for Casa de Redwood, said he and his <br />wife have lived in Redwood City for 26 years, they have been active in cultural life, and <br />voted in every election. He spoke in favor of healthcare for low-income seniors and how <br />he is looking for land to build a second "Casa", possibly in the proposed area. <br /> <br />Kaia Eakin, thanked Council for the overview of the process and had some questions <br />about disposition and payment of any additional technical reports. She asked Council to <br />commit to choosing total wetland restoration as an option of the EIR. <br /> <br />Mayor Ira said that if there are questions, answers can be posted on the web. Senior <br />Planner Lyon noted that the City routinely rejects proposals by developers. <br /> <br />Kassandra Hernandez, representing the Leadership Youth Program from Sequoia High <br />School District along with four other students, spoke about their program to promote active <br />youth leadership in community matters and to help Redwood City grow and prosper. She <br />spoke in favor of the need for careful study, believes there are many benefits, and <br />supports the plan. <br /> <br />Mary Guedon, a 34-year resident of Redwood City and representing the "Raging <br />Grannies", spoke in favor of environmental stewardship, restoration and reclamation of the <br />salt ponds now. <br /> <br />Luis Crowe, director of a theater along with five others, spoke about their work to promote <br />professional quality plays in Spanish in the Say Area for children, teens, and adults. He <br />said they care about the future of the City, particularly opportunities for the Hispanic <br />community, and he thanked Council for the review of the Saltworks plan expressing hope <br />for a new theater. <br /> <br />Arnoldo Arreola, a resident of Redwood City since 1965, expressed his appreciation of the <br />city and community. He spoke in favor of the process, the need for sustainability, and the <br />need to learn more about the 50-50 plan, and to have a process based on evaluation <br />before making a decision. <br /> <br />Evelyn Meier, a resident of Redwood City, spoke about issues concerning the proposed <br />saltponds development: increased traffic and danger, water supply, earthquakes, possible <br />liquefaction, safety, and the possible need to evacuate 25,000 people. She urged Council <br />to not authorize development of the saltponds. <br /> <br />Douglas Karlson, representing the Sair Island Aquatic Center (SIAC), spoke in favor of <br />continuing the expanded Saltworks environmental review process.
