Mr. Duncan Jones

Page 5

January 16,2003

0

Construction Details (10 sheets revised) - significant changes required on all sheets,
including station/offset call outs, and finished grade elevations.

0

Drainage Plan & Profile, Quantities (10 sheets revised) - because of the grade changes,
the drainage patterns were changed significantly, requiring a complete redesign of many
of the storm .drain systems, including temporary drainage requirements. Several of the
drainage profile sheets have to be completely redone, and most of the drainage quantities
need to be revised.

0

Construction Details (ADL Material) (2 sheets revised) - the construction detail sheets
that show where and how the Aerially Deposited Lead contaminated material is to be
disposed of on-site have to be completely redone because the locations have completely
changed.

0

Construction Details (Wick Drains) (1 sheet revised) - the construction detail sheet
showing the location of the wick drains has to be completely redone because the wick
drain locations have been altered by the embankment construction.

0

Pavement Delineation (4 sheets revised, 1 sheet added) - the striping plans have to be
revised because of the new on ramp alignment and the reconstruction of Marine Parkway.
New drawings will be added because of the overlay on Ralston Avenue between the
overcrossing structure and Granada Street.

0

Sign Plans (3 sheets revised) - additional signs have to be relocated and new signs added
to the plans.

0

Staging/Traffic Handling Plans (25 sheets revised) - approximately 60% of the plans
have to be completely redone because the construction staging sequence is revised
significantly. The sequence of the construction staging was completely changed in order
to maintain the traffic flow with as little disruption as possible and to minimize lane
closures. With Caltrans Staging/Traffic Handling Plans format, the base sheet for the
next stage of construction is the previous stages completed work, requiring extensive
drafting effort each time the staging is altered. Therefore, the previously prepared
Staging/Traffic Handling Plans cannot be reused with the revised staging sequence, hence
requiring creation of all new base plan sheets. Also, new plan sheets must be added to
accommodate the reconstruction of Marine Parkway that was not included in the project
before the profile changes.

0

Retaining Wall Plans & Details (8 sheets revised) - only one of the seven retaining walls
is not impacted by the changed profiles. The plans/details for the six retaining walls
affected have to be completely redone because the location of the walls has changed, the
beginning/ending of the walls has been revised, and the wall heights have been increased
by the roadway finished grades. All but one of the retaining walls is an MSE wall
(Mechanically Stabilized Embankment), which requires much more detail work because
of the wire and strap layout details that must be designed.

0

Utility Plans (3 sheets revised) - the impacts to existing utilities was changed by the
revised improvements. The plans need to be revised to show the additional impacts.
