Mr. Duncan Jones

Page 6

January /6, 2003

0

Electrical (7 sheets) - the revised geometries result in minor changes to the ramp
metering design (one location), two traffic signal designs, and modifications to street
light and safety lighting for the diagonal on ramp.

0

Landscape (10 sheets revised, 7 sheets added) - the changes to the roadway profiles
caused significant impacts to both the existing landscaping and the proposed landscaping.
The proposed landscape on the east side of the freeway has to be completely revised
because of the additional impacts and the changes in retaining wall locations. Also,
Caltrans comments on the 65% plan submittal require additional landscape work on the
west side of the freeway which was not included in our original proposal. Caltrans new
setback requirements for landscape from the edge of traveled way and landscape criteria
for sight distance at gore areas has resulted in substantial changes to the plans and
requires additional plan sheets. Caltrans also requested that the bid documents include
tree removal plans (plants to be removed and to remain). In addition, the City of Belmont
has directed MTCo to modifY the landscape plans to accommodate the proposed bike
path by the City. These changes required an additional 7 new landscape/irrigation plan
sheets be added to the bid documents. Included in this task are field meetings with
Caltrans maintenance personnel to detennine what existing landscaping can remain and
what is to be removed, as well as meetings with Landscape Architect group to detennine
additionallandscape/irrigation requirements.

0

Irrigation (10 sheets revised) - all of the irrigation must be completely redone not only
because of the additional impacts caused by the profile changes, but also because
Caltrans has directed MTCo to replace the system as it no longer is operational. In
addition, new irrigation systems are required because of the change in landscape as a
result of the revisions to the setback requirements and sight distance criteria at gore areas.

6. Sanitarv Sewer Force Main Relocation Plans

Plans will be added for the relocation of the sanitary sewer force main that is now required to be
relocated because of the embankment construction for the Island Parkway direct connection. We
are proposing to add Kennedy/Jenks Consultants as a subconsultant to do this work.
Approximately 800 LF of the sewer force main must be relocated away ITom the embankment
construction to avoid conflicts and damage due to future roadway settlement and loading. The
relocated sanitary sewer force main will be placed in a new utility easement on the east side of
realigned Island Parkway.

7. Tvue Selection ReDort and Island Parkwav Bridl!e Desil!n

The existing bridge plans for the two on ramp bridge structures cannot be revised as a new bridge
structure must be designed at a new location. A new Type Selection Report will be prepared for
the new Island Parkway direct connector bridge and submitted to Caltrans. MTCo will set up and
attend a Type Selection meeting at Caltrans Department of Structures in Sacramento to discuss
and resolve any comments on the Type Selection Report.

The new bridge design will be based on the approved Type Selection Report.

8. Box Culvert Bridl!e

The original scope did not include design of a roadway bridge over the existing triple box culvert
beneath Marine Parkway and Island Parkway for the Belmont Channel. This bridge was added
