Hours of Work: The following provisions <br /> shall govern hours -of work for City employees, provided <br /> that these provisions shall ,got in any case interfere <br /> with essential services to be rendered by a department. <br /> Pull time employees shall work a minimum of 40 hours each <br /> week. Prior to April 1, 1971, the typical schedule for <br /> fire fighting personnel of the Fire Department shall be <br /> based on an average of 63 hours a week. From and after <br /> . April 1, 1971, the typical schedule for fire fighting <br /> personnel of the Fire Department shall be based on an <br /> average of 58 hours a week, and from and after January 1, <br /> 1972, on an average of 56 hours a week." <br /> 4. Section 2 of Rule XII of the Personnel Rules and Regula- <br /> tions of the City of Redwood City is hereby amended to read as <br /> follows: <br /> "Section 2. Overtime: It is the policy of the City <br /> that overtime work shall be discouraged. If, in the judgment <br /> of a department head, work beyond the established work week <br /> is required for which compensation in any form is to be <br /> made, he shall report the circumstances to the City Manager <br /> and he shall not obligate the City to compensate for such <br /> overtime in any form or manner except upon specific <br /> authorization of the City Manager; provided, however, that <br /> in the case of emergency to prevent loss of life or damage <br /> to property, or inconvenience to the public, a department <br /> head may authorize such overtime pending the submission _n <br /> writing to the City Manager of the specific reasons therefor. <br /> "Authorized overtime may be compensated for with time <br /> and one -half off at the request of the employee and with <br /> the agreement of his department head, or in cash at one <br /> and one -half times the employee's established rate of pay. <br /> Compensatory time off, excluding Fire Department drill <br /> time, may be accumulated in the maximum amount of 45 hours <br /> in compensation for 30 hours actual overtime worked and <br /> based upon the aforesaid rate of time and one -half, at the <br /> request of the employee and with the approval of his <br /> department head. Any overtime in excess of said maximum <br /> amount, shall be paid in cash. • <br /> "When Police Department personnel are required to appear <br /> in court in the line of duty on off time, compensatory time <br /> or cash payment at the aforementioned overtime rate shall <br /> be granted for actual court time performed; provided, <br /> however, that a minimum of three hours for each such appear- <br /> ance shall be so compensated. Drill time for Fire Department <br /> personnel shall be compensated by equivalent time off only. <br /> When Fire Department personnel are required to work an <br /> unscheduled 24 hour shift, or any portion thereof, the <br /> first 12 hours so worked shall be compensated for at the <br /> aforesaid overtime rate, and the remaining hours so worked <br /> shall be compensated for at the applicable regular rate <br /> of compensation. <br /> "Overtime to be compensated for in cash must be <br /> • <br /> -3- <br />
