110 . 411 <br /> compensated at the rate of pay at which earned. Calcula- <br /> tion for overtime work shall be on the basis of a 40 hour <br /> work week; provided, however, that overtime work for Fire <br /> Department personnel regularly assigned 24 hour shifts <br /> shall be calculated on the basis of an average work week <br /> as established by Section 1 hereof. The smallest unit of <br /> working time credited as overtime shall be one -half hour; <br /> provided, however, that when an employee is called back <br /> to duty beyond the normal working day, the smallest unit <br /> of overtime credited shall be two hours. Fractions of <br /> one -half hour worked at different times may not be added <br /> together for the purpose of computing overtime work." <br /> 5. Section 7 is hereby added to Rule VI of the Personnel <br /> Rules and Regulations of the City of Redwood City to read as <br /> follows: <br /> "Section 7. Educational Incentive Program: (a) There <br /> is hereby established an educational incentive program for <br /> the Police Department. The purpose of the educational <br /> incentive program is to encourage participants therein to <br /> develop and enhance their professional qualifications as <br /> peace officers for the mutual benefit of said participants <br /> and the City. All employees of the Police Department of <br /> the rank of lieutenant or below and who are actively engaged <br /> in law enforcement duties (excluding telephone operators, <br /> dispatchers, clerks, stenographers, machinists, mechanics, <br /> or other persons whose duties do not clearly fall within <br /> the scope of active law enforcement service) are eligible <br /> to participate in the educational incentive program. <br /> "(b) Each fiscal year (commencing with the fiscal <br /> year July 1, 1971 - June 30, 1972) an eligible employee <br /> who has met the following qualifications during the <br /> immediately preceding fiscal year shall, in addition to <br /> all other compensation, be paid monthly a sum equal to <br /> 2.5 per cent of his basic monthly salary. To qualify, <br /> each such employee shall have: <br /> "(1) been awarded the Intermediate Certificate <br /> by. the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards <br /> and Training in said preceding fiscal year or at any <br /> time prior thereto; and either <br /> "(2) successfully completed (with a grade of C <br /> or equivalent, or higher) three semester or four <br /> quarter units of college -level courses approved by <br /> the Chief of Police as of substantial benefit to such <br /> employee's education as a professional peace officer, <br /> or <br /> • <br /> "(3) successfully completed a minimum of 60 hours <br /> of in- service training recognized as such by the <br /> California Commission on Peace Officer Standards. and <br /> Training. <br /> "(c) Each fiscal year (commencing with the fiscal <br /> year July 1, 1971 - June 30, 1972) an eligible employee <br /> -4- <br />
