� 12 <br />years the Crisis Center has been the only 24 -hour suicide and crisis hotline in the <br />San Mateo County. In addition, the Youth Intervention Team provides San <br />Mateo County schools and police with on call counselors who are available daily <br />to assess students' suicidal behaviors or other crisis situations. $15,000 was <br />requested to support the operation of the crisis hotline and outreach in Redwood <br />City. <br />SUPPORTIVE SERVICES <br />International Institute of SF <br />The International Institute is the only non - profit agency providing immigration <br />legal services leading toward family reunification and United States citizenship to <br />the residents of Redwood City and the highly populated core of San Mateo <br />County. $30,000 was requested to support the provision of these services to <br />Redwood City residents. <br />Leoal Aid Societv of San Mateo Countv <br />The principal purpose of the Legal Aid Society is to provide high quality legal <br />assistance to low income residents of San Mateo County in almost every area of <br />civil law. Common cases could include domestic violence, problems with <br />government agencies, housing, problems with creditors, garnishments, Medi -Cal <br />health benefits, consumer problems, dissolution of marriage, child custody, and <br />landlord- tenant issues. $20,000 was requested to support legal assistance to <br />seniors, persons with disabilities, and domestic violence survivors living in <br />Redwood City. <br />Samaritan House - Redwood Free Clinic <br />Founded in 1974, Samaritan House is a community -based nonprofit organization <br />with over 25 years of experience in meeting the needs of low- income residents of <br />San Mateo County - primarily in San Mateo. In May 2001, Samaritan House <br />opened the Free Clinic of Redwood City to provide free healthcare services to <br />low- income individuals and families who do not receive medical insurance <br />through their low -wage jobs, cannot afford "out of pocket" healthcare expenses <br />and have no other access to healthcare services. $20,000 was requested to <br />support this program. <br />Volunteer Center of San Mateo Countv- Recruitment/Referral and <br />Aaencv /Community Relations <br />Founded in 1953, the Volunteer Center of San Mateo County has a long history <br />in the county as a leader and advocate of volunteerism as a means of solving <br />serious social problems. The center works collaboratively with public and <br />nonprofit organizations in addressing community needs — providing an expertise <br />in volunteer recruitment and management to over 650 nonprofit groups. <br />Approximately 65 of the nonprofit agencies the Volunteer Center supports are in <br />Redwood City. $15,725 was requested to support recruitment and referral of <br />
