Motion <br /> carried. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS OF COUNCIL AND DEPARTMENT HEADS: <br /> Councilman Granger stated that the railroad crossing at Whipple is in very bad con- <br /> dition and should be rebuilt or repaired at once. Councilman Britschgi moved that the <br /> City Manager contact the Southern Pacific Company regarding the matter of repairing <br /> the Whipple Avenue crossing, seconded by Councilman Granger who stated that the Southern <br /> Pacific Company should be notified that this is an emergency matter. <br /> Councilman Granger stated that the National Guard has advised him that Governer's Day will <br /> be June 25th at Camp Roberts and they are endeavoring to have the attendance of <br /> officials of every City on the peninsula. They requested that as many as possible of <br /> Redwood City officials attend this event. The National Guard will be informed that <br /> the Council looks in favor of this event and representatives of the City of Redwood <br /> City will definitely be there. This matter held over to June 6th. <br /> Councilman Royer advised the Council regarding the Hawes Park Switch, that the Sdhool Board <br /> is having a meeting on Wednesday, June 8th. This is to be taken up at Study Meeting, <br /> Thursday, June 2nd, and considered further at the June 6th council meeting in order <br /> that an answer may be given the school authorities. <br /> Councilman Royer requested that the Emerald Lake Water situation be discussed at this study <br /> meeting. <br /> Councilman Granger presented to the Council so that it would not escape the records that a <br /> special district election will be held on Tuesday, June 7th, on the question of dis- <br /> solution of Kensington Square Sanitary District. The matter of who would be responsible <br /> for the sanitary conditions in that area were discussed briefly. <br /> City Clerk Dodge read correspondence from the Peninsula Celebration Association stating that <br /> the Nor -Cal Auto Racing Association was requesting permission to rent the rodeo grounds <br /> on Bayshore Highway for the purpose of auto racing on Sunday afternoons only by <br /> jalopies or modified stock cars. <br /> Councilman Granger suggested that they be given a 30 day trial, and if they prove not <br /> to be a nuisance, to allow thm to continue the use of the rodeo grounds. Councilman <br /> Royer suggested that something could be worked out where it would be satisfactory to <br /> all departments that it be on a trial basis and would not be a burden to the taxpayers <br /> regarding police protection. <br /> Mr. Harold G. Rice, President of the Nor -Cal Automobile Racing Association appeared <br /> stating that the racing will be on Sunday afternoons from approximately 2 :15 P.M. to <br /> 5:00 P.M. Chief of Police Wood advised the Council that police protection would be <br /> provided at the expense of the association, and the officers would be off -duty men:, <br /> He stated that he does not see any particular hazard to afternoon racing, if there is <br /> police protection. After much discussion regarding the races Councilman Royer moved <br /> that the City Manager make a report on this after receiving information from other <br /> cities where these races are allowed, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br /> CITY AUDITOR REQUEST APPROPRIATION $2,481.54 PREMIUM ON LIABILITY ND PROPERTY DAMAGE POLICY. <br /> Letter of Auditor Brophy was read.
