Councilman Stout
stated that members of the Library Board, Council Library Committee and School .
Trustees met to consider advisability of the location of a branch library in either
the Goodwin School area or the Roosevelt School area, as a result of continued
demand for a branch library in that area. He submitted letter addressed to Council
by Secretary of the Redwood City Public Library advising that the two above sites
have been considered a possible location of the branch library, requesting
recommendation of the Council. Councilman Stout stated that in contacting Mrs. Mer-
man, Librarian, he was advised that there seems to be no other property available
and the area in these two schools would be most suitable. He presented to the -
Council a sketch prepared by the Engineering Department, covering both sites and
indicating the surrounding territory which would be served by a branch library in
both sites. In the opinion of the Committee, the Goodwin area is the most
suitable. Councilman Stout stated there is a piece of school property on Euclid
Avenue which also might be considered. Councilman Britschgi suggested that this
matter be referred to the Planning Commission for their recommendation. After some
discussion concerning the next step to be taken, Councilman Jones moved that this
be referred first to the Planning Commission and then to Study Meeting of the Coun-
cil, seconded by Councilman Britschgi.
