! Councilman Spillers stated his opinion that bus shelters were not too attractive after a <br /> time and might prove to be an eye -sore to that area. Councilman Britschgi was of the <br /> opinion that the idea was good and that the matter should be turned over to a Council Com- <br /> mittee to check into it further. Mr. Leonard Tornell addressed the Council stating that <br /> it was the desire of the Westwood Terrace Improvement Club to get the reaction of the <br /> II City- Council regarding the points noted above and stated the possibility of a shelter <br /> being worked out to harmonize with the buildings and structures about to be erected in <br /> the area. After further discussion, Councilman Stout moved that the matter be referred <br /> to the City Manager for investigation and report back in two weeks. Motion was seconded <br /> by Councilman Royer who suggested that Mr. Rolison contact the Planning Commission re- <br /> questing their recommendation, also to discuss the matter with some of the people in <br /> the area. The motion was carried. <br /> APPLICATION FOR BUSINESS LICENSE TO CONDUCT USED FURNITURE STORE, 2145 EL CAMINO REAL: <br /> A letter from Mr. George Davis requesting permission to operate a used Furniture Store <br /> stating that due to a misunderstanding, he had opened up for business but had since <br /> closed down and ceased all further activities pending Council permission. Mr. Davis <br /> had also applied for a new permit with the Planning Commission. Councilman Royer moved <br /> approval subject to use permit from the Planning Commission, seconded by Councilman <br /> Britschgi. Councilman Spillers objected to the name under which Mr. Davis proposed to <br /> conduct the business, namely, "The Redwood Trading Post". After further discussion, <br /> Mr. Davis, who was in the audience, stated his willingness to select a name which would <br /> be acceptable. The motion was carried. <br /> COUNTY CLERK REGALING LIGHTING VICINITY OF COURTHOUSE: A letter from Mr. Bruning indi- <br /> cates that the subject of lighting in the area of the Courthouse and the new Hall of <br /> Justice had been referred to the Dis trict Attorney's office for study and report. We <br /> will be advised of further consideration when the item again appears on the Board's <br /> Agenda. Councilman Britschgi moved that this letter be turned over to Councilman Granger <br /> who is the Chairman of the Committee. Seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. <br /> COMMUNICATION FROM THE LYONS STREET RESIDENTS was read by the Clerk in which permission <br /> was requested to block off the Street, which is one block in length, and permit a 4th <br /> of July party for the small children of the neighborhood (approximately 63). The pur- <br /> pose for this request is to conduct a safe and supervised party for the children, the <br /> majority of whom are 5 years and under. Councilman Spillers moved approval, subject to <br /> clearing through the Police Department. The motion was seconded by Councilman Stout and <br /> carried. <br /> MISS DOROTHY ROBERTS appeared before the Council with First Place Trophy #25 which was <br /> won by the "Stars of Tomorrow" at a recent competition in Burlingame known as Cavalcade <br /> of Youth. Miss Roberts presented this Trophy to the Recreation Commission and it was <br /> I/ accepted by Mrs. Louise Tornell, Secretary of the Commission, with appropriate remarks. <br /> The Council thanked Miss Roberts for the wonderful job her organization was doing. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS, COUNCIL AND DEPARTMENT HEADS: City Attorney Currie <br /> requested the transfer of 44,500,00 from some Fund with which to purchase two parcels <br /> of land in the area at the back of the City Hall and which will be used in the parking <br /> lot. He stated both of the parcels were priced at appraised value or below. City <br />
