364
Auditor Brophy advised that he had been authorized to advance money from the General
Fund to be replaced from the Parking District Funds after the sale of .bonds. Councilman Granger
noted absent.
CITY MANAGER ROLISON presented suggested ad for the Fiesta edition, half of which was
being carried by the Port and the other half to be charged to the City. Councilman
Spillers moved that the City Manager be authorized to approve the ad after referring
to the Chamber of Commerce. He sited the
following facts:
1. Pumper worked on recent Kaiser Gupsum fire, pumping from bay from
4 :00 p.m. Thursday to 7:00 a.m. Friday at near capacity of 1000 GPM.
2. Pumper will have considerable value as a reserve during repairs to
other engines.
3. Will be valuable as a training unit.
4. Could be mounted on a barge or landing craft to fight fires on the
water front at a reasonable cost.
This engine, while 29 years old, is in fair condition as to chassis and running
gear. Motor and pump was completely overhauled about four years ago and is in good
1
shape. Pump is completely of bronze and is ideal for salt water pumping. Inasmuch
as call for bids on the new pumper included an alternate bid containing the turn -in
feature, Council decided that Engine No. 3 should be retained. Councilman Royer so
moved, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried.
WIDEN AND RESURFACE BROADWAY BETWEEN CHARTER STREET AND THE SOUTHERLY LIMITS OF REDWOOD
INDUSTRIAL TRACT NO. 1: G- T. -55: City Engineer Jain stated that a decision must be
reached as to the permissable width of driveway openings adjacent to the Redwood
Wholesale Grocery Co. before plans and specifications are completed and project ad-
vertised for bids. At the time building was constructed entire curb for a distance
of 124 feet was knocked out without approval or.permit from the City. The owner was
advised in writing on October 1, 1948 that this was in violation of the City Ordinance.
Other industrial owners in the area have been required to conform to the City drive-
way and sidewalk ordinances. In each case they have pointed out the violations and
have insisted that this owner should also be required to comply.
The work to be done by the contractor on the present widening project must be,speci-
fied and shown upon the plans so that bids may be made accordingly. In order that
sidewalks be provided in conformance of the Ordinance and that adequate safety be pro-
vided to traffic and pedestrians, Mr. Jain recommends the following:
1. Driveways to comply with City Ordinance be required.
2. Sidewalks to conform to Ordinance No. 639 and Resolution #1164 shall
be required adjacent to all industrial property.
3. Dead parking across and along parkways between curb and property line
should be prohibited.
As all requirements and cooperation by other property owners in the area will un-
