In regard to the Councils determination after the <br /> 5 -year period, Councilman Britschgi stated that in discussing this matter with sev- <br /> eral owners of plots in the cemetery, it appeared that the majority felt that the <br /> area should be considered as sacred ground and should not be used for playground <br /> purposes. There was a thought that eventually some type of Memorial could be <br /> erected and the Union Cem -tery be landscaped and lawns planted similar to a park. <br /> Motion carried. <br /> COUNCILMAN Granger moved that the Southern Pacific Company be notified that the Council <br /> was about to take action on the recommendation of the Planning Commission to rezn e <br /> their property in the vicinity of the S. P. Depot. It was felt that the Railroad <br /> Company had been given sufficient time to make up their minds and therefore sug- <br /> gested a 30 -day period, after which the Council would take action as noted above. <br /> Motion seconded by Councilman Royer and carried. <br /> COUNCILMAN Britschgi requested the Street Department to trim or remove trees which were <br /> blocking the view of the s top signs recently installed along Hopkins Avenue call- <br /> ing attention particularly to one tree on the corner of Fulton Street and one on <br /> the corner of Duane and Hopkins Avenue. City Engineer will have this matter check- <br /> ed into. <br /> COUNCILMAN Britschgi requested information as to whether or not the City had any control <br /> over the S. P. Company right -of -way insofar as the week abatement program was con- <br /> cerned. He called attention to the present unsightly condition of the right -of -way <br /> caused by improper burning of the same. <br /> COUNCILMAN Jones requested a report from the City Manager indicating available funds, <br /> if any, which might be used for the construction of bridges causing the blind <br /> streets in the area west of El Camino Real. <br /> COUNCILMAN Jones called attention to the mounting accidents on the Bayshore Highway <br /> and was of the opinion that we should insist on prompt completion of the freeway <br /> through Redwood City. In his opinion, the only way this can be accomplished is by <br /> keeping after them. Councilman Granger moved that a letter be addressed to the Gover- <br /> nor requesting his assistance in this matter, seconded by Councilman Royer and <br /> carried. <br /> COUNCILMAN Britschgi noted that the State had placed a "No Left Turn" at Charter Street <br /> and Bayshore, however, motorists were turning left before reaching Charter Street. <br /> He suggested another sign be placed further South on Bayshore to give previous <br /> warning. Captain Faulstich stated that State selected their own locations for <br /> signs, furthermore, he called attention to the fact that left turns across double <br /> line to private driveways such as the restaurant in the vicinity were legal in <br /> accordance with the Vehicle Code. <br /> COUNCILMAN Granger suggested the Traffic Fact Finding Committee check the one -way street <br /> entrance into Bayshore at 3rd Avenue with the thought that some such program might <br /> work out here. <br /> CITY ATTORNEY called attention to the necessity of a transfer of $500.00 to cover purchase <br /> of easement from Carleton Court to Kentfield Avenue.
