FURTHER DISCUSSION, FARM HILLS RESERVOIR SITE. There was a letter on file from A. F. Odd -
stad, Jr. in regard to the reservoir site, but this letter was not read. Councilman
Granger, Chairman, Cinnabar Committee, read the following letter from A. F. Oddstad,
Jr., in regard to the cinnabar deposits on land owned by the City of Redwood City
adjacent to the Farm Hill Subdivision.
"With reference to the cinnabar deposits on land owned by the City of Redwood City
adjacent to our Farm Hill Subdivision in Redwood City, I, A. F. Oddstad, Jr., hereby
offer to lease from the City such land as is determined by me to contain cinnabar
in quantities which will be economically feasible to process. Such lease shall give
to the Lessee, A. F. Oddstad, Jr., full right to explore, develop, excavate and re-
move ores, process ores, and market mercury extracted from ore.
As payment for the leasing of the above property, A. F. Oddstad, Jr. shall give to
the City of Redwood City, 50% of the profit derived from the s ale of the mercury
extracted from the ore on the land owned by the City. Profits shall be determined
by deducting the cost of the exploration, development, mining, processing and market-
ing, as indicated above, which cost shall be $30.00 per ton of ore handled, from
the sales price of the mercury. Only that ore will be processed which, in my opinion,
will show a profit after the expense, as indicated above, has been deducted from
the sales price.
If, in the opinion of the undersigned, the cinnabar on property being developed by
Oddstad Homes and property owned by the City, is determined to be of sufficient
magnitude to warrant the installation of a processing plant relatively close to the
mining operation (i.e., along Bayshore Highway in Redwood City or San Carlos), I will
set up such a processing plant. If such a plant is built, there will be a decrease
in the 430.00 per ton handling cost, which decrease shall be reflected directly in the
determination of profit as indicated above.
(signed)
Very truly yours, A. F. Oddstad, Jr.
Councilman Granger moved that the City Manager spend funds necessary to secure techni-
