Devotional was dispensed with. <br /> ON ROLL CALL the following members were noted present: Councilmen Floyd D. Granger, <br /> Paul Jones, William H. Royer, Robert V. Spillers, Hiram S. Stout, Mayor Sidney D. <br /> Herkner and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Councilman Carl A. Britschgi was noted absent. <br /> Also present were City Manager E. A. Rolison, City Attorney C. B. Currie, City <br /> Engineer Glenn M. Jain, Building Inspector S. H. Kreiss, Police Chief William <br /> Faulstich, Police Sergeant Theodore Moudakas, lire Chief J. L. Lodi, Assistant Water <br /> Superintendent Warren Mitchell and Administrative Assistant Orrin E. Wendling. <br /> PUBLIC HEARING PLANNING COMMISSION DENIAL OF OWN INITIATIVE TO REZONE AREA BOUNDED BY <br /> DUANE, inIHIPPLE, EL CAMINO REAL AND BREWSTER FROM 11-4 TO P -l. Affidavit of mailing <br /> was ordered filed. Planning Commission recommended denial of their own initiative <br /> to rezone the area from R -4 to P -1 after conducting a Land Use Survey indicating <br /> that the area was predominently residential In character. <br /> Mrs. W. H. Brown, 1324 Hopkins Avenue, spoke in favor of rezoning stating that the <br /> majority of the people in the area would like to see the original plan carried out. <br /> There being no further discussion from the audience, Councilman Spillers moved close <br /> of hearing, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried. Councilman Granger stated his <br /> opinion that he could see no reason why the Council should reverse the thinking of <br /> the Planning Commission unless there was a good and sufficient reason which app- <br /> arently has not been brought out at this hearing. Councilman Spillers favored the <br /> rezoning as originally proposed. After further discussion, Councilman Granger moved <br /> approval of the Planning Commission recommendation, seconded by Councilman Stout and <br /> carried, Councilman Spillers voting NO. <br /> REPORT ON BID OPENING, PARKING LOT VII, PARKING DISTRICT NO. 1. The following bids were <br /> received: <br /> 0. C. Jones & Sons, Berkeley 067,779.90 <br /> Oscar C. Holmes, Redwood City 76,499.90 <br /> Bragato Paving Company, Belmont 79,627 .50 <br /> The preliminary estimate of Mr. Charles E. Randlett, consulting engineer <br /> on this project, was ,03,859.30. <br /> City Engineer wished to call to the Councils attention that errors in extension of <br /> Items No. 3 and No. 5 were found on the the bid of O. C. Jones & Sons which, when <br /> corrected, reduced their bid from 469,073.10 to x67,779.90. Also, Mr. Jones did <br /> not write out the unit prices in words as required in the portion of the specifications <br /> entitled "Information for Bidders." However, this is a technicality, and it is his <br /> opinion that the unit prices indicated in figures should be accepted, subject to the <br /> approval of the City Attorney. <br /> City Engineer recommended that the basic bid of 0. C. Jones & Sons in the corrected <br />
