Councilman Britschgi spoke against.allowing such.a small building.. being brought into the City, especially if .erected on the street which. he believes will be the City's next major city street.. Councilman Britschgi then moved. that the request be denied, seconded by Councilman .Spillers. .Mayor Herkner asked..the.Building..Inspector if his department. would..allow _a similar building to be built...if. the, Council _denied Mr. Walker's request. The Building .Inspector stated. that a. building. permit._ could_. .be issued for such a size building. Mr. Walker. addressed the Council.in.regard.to.his.plans for his office building and the steps which he would take to conform.to.Fire Zone #2..regulations. This was followed. by discussion after .which Councilman. Spillers__wi.thdrew his second to the motion. Councilman Granger. stated_that.he.w as.against.any building being moved into the City limits_ of. Redwood City and with this.in mind. he. seconded Councilman Britschgi's motion to deny the request. Councilman Britschgi's motion lost with Councilmen Jones, Spillers, Stout and Mayor Herkner voting NO. Councilman Stout moved that the permit be granted to move the building from Santa Clara to Mr. Walker's. lot on the corner of Spruce and shasta Streets based on the condition that the. building .be.madeto conform to Fire Zone No. 2 regulations and that it meet the sanitary and health reguirements, seconded. by. Councilman Spillers. Councilman Britschgi.again...stated that .he was. against allowing. a small building to be built on Spruce. Street as he was of the opinion that it would spoil the looks - of the street in the event that it becomes a major city.stree.t... This.was_followed by discuss- ion as to what measure the City could stop or allow a limited time for the building to exist at the proposed location.. City Attorney stated that this could not be done. Councilman Britschgi then made a substitute motion that, the Council tale under con- . sideration.the matter of.making this area into Fire Zone .#1, seconded by Councilman Granger. This was followed.by a heated..discuss. ion. r'i.re Chief. Lodi. suggested that this be given considerable thought as it would require that all the buildings in the area would be required to build for hour fire resistant buildings. Councilman Stout was of the opinion that this had nothing to do with his motion and he asked the Mayor to rule on the question. Councilman Granger withdrew his second and Councilman Britschgi withdrew his motion. .councilman Stout's motion carried with Councilmen Britschgi, Granger and Hoyer voting NO. Councilman Britschi mo.ved that consideration be given to rezoning the area of Spruce Street from El Camino Real to the railroad tracks to Fire Zone No. 1, seconded by Councilman Granger. . Councilman Stout was of the opinion. that this. should be done after 1 the Council knows for sure .if..Spruce. Street will become a major..city street. Motion carried. • FURTHER CONSIDERATION PLANNING COMMISSION DENIAL A PPLICATIO OF V. MASIRE TO RESUBDIVIDE LOTS • 5, 6, 7 and 8, BLOCK 4, WEST REDWOOD ( 1701 Rossevelt Avenue ). The City Clerk stated that he had been notified by. the Planning Commission. that they. still .did not approve the resubdivision. Mr. Masaire stated that there were no protests at the time of the public hearing held by the Planning Commission.. Clerk Dodge. stated that the.Planning Commiss- ion was of the opinion that only single family units should be allowed. on this partic- ular piece of property if subdivided. This was followed by discussion in regard to building 37.' lots. Mr. Masaire stated that there was total of 87 *' which would allow him to build on two 432' lots. The lots would be 43.9' x 104'.
