319
owner building on the property, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried.
COUNCILMAN BRITSCHGI REQUESTED INFORMATION REGARDING BANKRUPT SALES. It appears that one
company who received a permit for bankrupt sale is now operating as usual. Councilman
Royer advised the Council that this sale was to be tentative and if it worked out the
man would sign a longtime lease. Mr. Paul Perrin, City Collector, will check in to
this and report back at the next Council meeting.
COUNCILMAN BRITSCHGI PRAISED MAYOR HERKNER for the wonderful work he has done during the
past year, and expressed his desire to continue working on the Council with the Mayor.
COUNCILMAN ROYER REQUESTED INFORMATION REGARDING BONDS PUT UP WHEN A BUILDING IS BEING CON-
STRUCTED. In the event a sidewalk is broken during construction would the bond be used
for that purpose. He was assured that the Ordinance covers this.
COUNCILMAN ROYER BROUGHT UP THE MATTER OF EXTENDING ROSE AVENUE. To review the matter, the
Real Estate Committee recommended that the assessment district buy the house, however,
it was too expensive to do this. Councilman Royer moved that this question be again
referred to the Planning Commission to see if something can be worked out in this area,
seconded by Councilman Jones and carried.
COUNCILMAN STOUT REMARKED ON THE SUCCESS OF THE COUNCIL DURING THE PAST YEAR, citing
accomplishments, such as:
1. Progress in Parking District #1.
2. Adoption of Truck Route Ordinance.
3. War Memorial Building progress.
He expressed the hope that the Yacht Harbor would be developed this coming year. This
is the end of Councilman Stout's first year on the Council and his desire was to continue
to work with the Mayor and Council and to learn as time went on.
1
CITY ATTORNEY CURRIE REQUESTED AUTHORITY TO APPOINT AN APPRAISER ALONG THE LINES SUGGESTED
IN THE AGREEMENT CONCERNING HAWES PARK, stating that there is nothing more that can be
done without figures to work with. Councilman Britschgi stated that since there is
evidently a change in the thinking on this subject that he would like to see the matter
held up for a week. Mayor Herkner stated that it has not been decided yet which proposal
they would follow, #1 or #2 or both; if it was both and the money was obtained, it was
to be used for acquisition of property in kind. Study meeting was called for Tuesday,
April 19th, at 5 P. M.
CITY MANAGER ROLISON REPORTED ON THE PARKING DISTRICT #1 PROGRESS, stating that the district
description is being prepared and the City Attorney is rushing the acquisition of pro-
perty as fast as possible. The bridge has been tentatively approved by the State. It
is the hope of all that the job can be started early this summer.
MR. S. H. KREISS PRESENTED TO THE COUNCIL THE CASE OF MR. JONES WHO HAS OPERATED A SHOE SHINE
PARLOR ON EL CAMINO and who wishes to move to Broadway and Winslow, near California Paci-
fic Title Company. After some discussion regarding the desirability of a building of
the type he has, which is a metal frame building and in bad shape, on Broadway, it was
decided that a shoe shine business is part of the town, but unless Mr. Jones can acquire
a building suitable to be situated on Broadway, he will have to find another location.
Councilman Spillers moved that permission be denied, seconded by Councilman Granger on
the basis that it is not a suitable building for the location. Motion carried on roll
call, Councilmen Britschgi and Royer voting NO.
•
