•'"
recyclables shali be provided for each residential tower unit. The City shall that Project
construction inciude these provisions prior to issuance of certcates of occupancy
(Mitigation 10-9).
Findings: The mitigation measure idttified aiwve is feasible and
reduces the potentially significant environmental impact dscribed 4bove to a less-than-
significant IeveL -
VIII. SOILS AND GEOLOGY
A. Gradinq. Dredqina and Surface Modifications
Potential Impact: Project grading, dredging and surface modcation, ff
not performed appropriately, could cause surface settlement, soil erosion and
unnecessary seismic hazards (Impact 11-1).
Mitigation: The Project will obtain from one or more registered
engineering geologists or geotechnical engineers detailed, design-level
geotechnical investigations to guie the design of all Project grading, dredging
and soil stabilization, on a structure-specific basis, and shall provide funds for the
City Engineer to retain an independent engineering geologist or geotechnical
engineer to review and approve the those investigations. All relevant provisions
;: , of the approved investigations shall be incorporated into Project plans, and al)
._ earthwork shall be performed under the direct supervision of a registered
engineering geologist or geotechnical engineer (Mitigation 11-1).
Findings: The mitigation measure identified above is feasible and
reduces the potentially significant environmentat impact described above to a less-than-
significant level.
B. Settlement
Potential Impact: If conventional shallow foundations are used, weak,
compressible Bay mud underlying on-site fill would not adequately support Project
structural loads, causing excessive total and differential settlement (Impact 11-2).
Mitigation: The design-level investigations required by Mitigation 11-1
shall include laboratory analyses of all material proposed for use as fill meeting the
standards specified in Mitigation 11-2. Fill design shall incorporate the results of these
analyses to minimize the destructive effects of settlement, and all improvements placed
on fill shall aiso be designed in accordance with the design-level investigations required
by Mitigation 11-1 (as further specified and enforced in recommendations in accordance
with Mitigation 11-2). After a final grading plan has been prepared, estimates of
potential settiement shall be prepared for structures and downdrag loads. After fills are
completed, settlement shall be monitored and improvement plans modified as
necessary. Dredged material analysis results shall be included in any appiication or
request for disposal or reuse of dredged material.
i289o2ns2s.z 30 .
Atty/ResWReso.1470
052004
