City Councif has already conceptual(y reviewed four <br /> of the Etements.' Now staff wishes to submit the Economic Development Element to the <br /> City Councii far the same type of review. <br /> The Econamic Development EEemen# es#ablishes a visian, goals, and policies to heEp <br /> create a healthy economy for Redwood City. These goais and polieies focus resources fo <br /> retain loca! business, attract new industries, support the tax base and pravide importan# <br /> services for existing and future residents. The document also provides a briefi economic <br /> prafile of Recfwood City. <br /> Although not a State required Element, both staff and the Redwood City San Mateo County <br /> Chamber of Commerce feft that the City's economic well being was impartant enough to <br /> warrant an individual Element. For this reason staff has been working close{y with the <br /> Chamber of Commerce to prepare the Economic Development E}ement. <br /> The Ecanomic Development Efement reflects several of #he General Plan's Guiding <br /> f'rinciples adopted by both the City Cauncil and Pfanning Commission. They are: <br /> �:• Sfrengthen economic vitality fo provide jobs, services, revenues, and <br /> opporfuni#ies. <br /> ❖ P/an for susfainabrlity within our finite resources including,but not limited <br /> to open space, wa�er, energy, and a1r qualify <br /> Some of the highlights of the Element include: <br /> • An economic profile of the City <br /> • Policies and goals for busir�ess development both in fhe Downtown and City- <br /> wide <br /> • Developing workforce programs ar�d education <br /> • Building community and a livable City <br /> • Working toward fscal s#ability and resource sustainabitity. <br /> 1 The City Coun�il conceptually reviewed the Parks and Open Space and Conservation Elemenfis on <br /> August 7,2006,and the Water Suppiy and Infrastructure Elemenfis en September 17,2D06. <br /> Page 1 of 5 <br />
