She <br /> noted it is a clean and somber environment. <br /> Tippy Irwin said she is a newcomer to Community Development Block Grant <br /> (CDBG) and she is very happy for the support she is getting right now. She is <br /> very excited to see the abuse level drop. She thanked Council for the funding <br /> and the support. <br /> Melissa Platte, with the Mental Health Association and Cedar Street Apartments, <br /> expressed her thanks for the support that has allowed them to grow and <br /> progress. She noted that the Cedar Street apartment complex will have a grand <br /> opening next Monday, May 9, 2011. <br /> Ray Pittsinger, program manager for the Center for Independence of the <br /> Disabled in San Mateo, said this is their 32 year of operations for their home <br /> modification program. They have made thousands of installation improvements <br /> that help prevent falls and accidents for the disabled and the aged. He <br /> expressed their appreciation for the support and they look forward to another <br /> year of service. <br /> Maryam Bhimji, program director for Save Harbor Shelter, thanked the Council <br /> for their support. She spoke about their services to the community, including <br /> those who are homeless for the first time. <br /> Chris Canter, with Shelter Network, expressed their thanks to the City and the <br /> Housing and Human Concerns Committee members for their support of their <br /> Redwood House and Maple Street Shelters. He spoke about an unprecedented <br /> increase in demand for services by families and also people who are homeless <br /> for the first time. <br /> Gyasi Udorgo spoke in support of Redwood House and how the help he received <br /> enable him, as a single father, to work on achieving his goals, including working <br /> two jobs and going to school. He is thankful for their support. Ashley Hartoch <br /> spoke next, alongside Mr. Udorgo, and said she is the program director of the <br /> Redwood House and said they cannot do these things without community <br /> support and expressed her thanks. <br /> Lauren Zorfas, executive director of Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County, <br /> expressed their thanks for the support of their house savers program.
