. F 2 , 2 9
M
In response to question, Assistant City Librarian Dempsey advised
that the week of July 11 has been selected as the most convenient
time to close the Library for installation of the carpeting.
i' Discussion followed concerning the fact that since the carpeting was
' approved for the 1976-77 Annual Budget, a commitment by Council has
been made to construct a new library building, whether it would be
practical to expend some $11,000 for new carpeting in a building
expected to be in use only three or four more years, the fact that
it is intended that the present library will be used to expand the
inadequate City Hall, the fact that it is planned that the new car-
' peting would be installed in areas presently uncarpeted as well as
to replace worn carpet, the fact that the carpeting in previously
uncarpeted areas would be expected to decrease substantially the
noise in the crowded library, and whether or not the carpeting could
be used when the library is remodelled for use as an extension of
City Hall.
In response to question, Ms. Dempsey advised that the recommended
entry carpet is more expensive because it is specifically designed
to catch foot dirt and prevent wear and damage to the rest of the
carpeted areas.
MOTION Councilman Norris moved, seconded by Councilman Biagi, to
continue consideration of the proposed library carpeting until after
the Budget Study Sessions.
CHANGE OF MOTION. City Manager Fales advised that installation of
the carpeting was approved for the 1976-77 Annual Budget and City
Attorney Schricker noted that funds budgeted for such purposes are
not carried forward if unused Councilman Norris, with the consent
of his second, then changed his motion to move the library carpeting
._ item forward to be considered for rebudgeting.
The motion as changed carried by ma,7ority voice vote, two "No" votes
being recorded.
