No expansion is anticipated beyond what is � now provided. • In the discussion which followed, the question was raised as to the feasibility of combining the positions of Fire Alarm Supervisor and t Administrattve Assistant, and Mr. Fales and Chief Keller responded with detailed explanation of the respective duties as well as cur- rent and anticipated programs. Mr. Fales also reviewed the status of the "911" program, commented on the anticipated conversion in com- mum cations to VHF in,all the mobile units, and proposed consolida- tion �n comnunicatians systems for Public Safety as well as Public Works. There was additional discussion regarding fire alarm systems, and the. - conversion from land line boxes to radio boxes. Fire Chief Keller responded to further questions by Council and indicated that more exact information would be brought back to Council regarding the number of calls on,fire alarm boxes, and the percentage of false alarms. He noted that the Code requires connection to'the fire alarm in buildings where there is a sprinkler system. " MOTION• Councilman Norris moved, seconded by Councilman Rhodes,, to el�minate the position of Fire Alarm Supervisor. ,, Mr. Keller advised, in response to questions by Council, that it�is � necessar,y to maintain adequate fire prevent�on personnel, that all, including the Fire Alarm Supervisor, are trained fire fighters and are needed, that it is necessary to be prepared not_only for fire emergencies, but all types of disasters. Mr. Fales supported his comments, and Councll noted that the consequences of el�minating either the Admim strative Assistant or the Fire Alarm Supervisor � positions were outlined in the "alternatives." Mr. Keller and Mr Fales also commented regarding the necessity of maintaining fire protection standards to the satisfaction of the Fire Rating Bureau. t Following additional coimnents, it was suggested by Council that the matter be held over for additional infor"mation. MOTION WITHDRAWN• Councilman Norris, with the consent of his second, withdrew his motion, pending receipt of additional information rela- tive to the position of Fire Alarm Supervisor. Mr. Fales co�rvnented on the proposed consolidation of training facilities, and that there are basic agreements with the cities of Belmont and San Carlos.
