� .3 � .'7 <br /> ,� .�. <br /> MOTION Councilman Biagi, seconded by Councilman Rhodes, moved to <br /> delete from the Fire Protection Account No 530 the position of <br /> Administrative Assistant <br /> , <br /> The motion failed on the following roll call vote <br /> ' Ayes Councilmen Biagi, Rhodes <br /> Noes Councilmen Barrett, Bury, Norris, Mayor Leipzig <br /> Ken Marqolies, of Local 715, spoke in support of retention of the � <br /> Typist-Clerk II position. <br /> � Further discussion followed relating to the position of Administrative <br /> Assistant T <br /> MOTION Councilman Norris moved, seconded by Councilman Rhodes, <br /> that one of the total number of Administrative Assistant positions <br /> be deleted from the budget, leaving selection of the particular <br /> pos�tion to the discretion of the City Manager. <br /> The five Administrative Assistant positions were identified as being <br /> in the following departments City Manager, Police Department, Fire <br /> Department, Parks and Recreation and Public Works. <br /> On the motion, some ob,7ection to�eltminating any of the Administrative <br /> Assistant positions was expressed in view of the scope of duties, <br /> as well as to placing the burden of that choice on the City Manager, <br /> whi)e support for the mot�on was ind�cated on the bas�s that areas <br /> of duplication of effort should be considered and the City Manager <br /> � would be the most logical person to make that �udgment. <br /> The motion carried on the following roll call vote ' <br /> 8 <br /> Ayes Councilmen Biagi, Bury, Norris, Rhodes <br /> Noes Councilman Barrett, Mayor Leipzig ' <br /> (MINUTE ORDER NO 76-141) <br /> Councilman Barrett commended Fire Inspector Christensen for his Q <br /> efforts in educating the public with regard to heat detector and � <br /> smoke detector devices. Mr Fales indicated in that connection <br /> that there have been some problems w�th opportunistic ind�v�duals <br /> entering this market, but pointed out that the City does not sell <br /> or promote any particular kind of detectors, but is able to compare <br /> effectiveness and provide information on the devices to the public <br /> Chief Keller elaborated on the sub�ect, and advocated adoption of <br /> an ord�nance similar to that in San Carlos relating to requtrements <br /> for heat and smoke detectors He also advised of a survey being <br /> conducted among school children in an effort to determ�ne who can <br /> afford such detectors and where the needs are Chief keller noted <br /> that a program will be developed on fire safety throughout the City. <br /> Account No 530 was approved as amended <br /> ' (Council recessed from 10 10 to 10 20 a m) <br /> ' -3- <br /> Budget Study <br /> ' � 5/22/76 <br /> �_�� <br /> ,'r y - , J <br />
