<br /> MOTION Councilman Norris moved, seconded by Councilman Barrett,
<br /> to allocate $3,000 to the Emergency Hunger Fund as requested by
<br /> ' that organization, with the additional $1,000 over the recommended
<br /> $2,000 ailocation.to come from unallocated Revenue Sharing Funds
<br /> Favorable comment was made concerning the activities�and efftciency
<br /> ` of the Emergency Hunger�Fund.- -

<br /> PROBE - COMMUNITY�EDUCATION CENTER_(�See below also) -
<br /> MOTION. Councilman Rhodes moved, seconded by Councilman Biagi, that
<br /> a$3,000 reduction in the recommended $23,817 allocation to PROBE
<br /> be made and that a,$2,000 reduction be_made-in_the recommended
<br /> $12,200 allocation to the Community Education Center, and that the
<br /> $5,000 obtained'from these=reductions be allocated to Halfway
<br /> House, Inc.
<br /> Clifford Boxley, Director of�PROBE, stated that he appreciated'_the
<br /> struggles of local government<to meet the-needs_of the citizens
<br /> within a limited�budget, but urged that Council�not take'funds from
<br /> one needed social agency to meet the needs of another important _
<br /> soc�al agency, observing that PROBE and Halfway�House serve different
<br /> parts of the community and-both are needed.� Mr Boxley advised that •
<br /> � that he is aware of the,funding diff�culties his orga m zation will
<br /> face if Revenue Sharing is eliminated and is`attempting to obtain
<br /> funds from other� . ,_ '

<br /> Laura Correa, Director of the Communtty Education Center, spoke
<br /> in support of Mr Boxley's statements and in-opposttion to the
<br /> motion ; ; � _ -- , - , ` , -
<br /> � Robert Powell, volunteer and ex-member of the PROBE�Boa'rd of-Directors,
<br /> spoke�n suppor,t of Mr. Boxley's statements, noting that it is under-
<br /> stood that Revenue Sharing funds are terminated, funds will have
<br /> to be obtained elsewhere

<br /> Bob Henderson, Chairman, Board of Directors, PROBE,�and former�Board
<br /> member of La Escuela Cuauhtemoc stated he understands alternative
<br /> sources of revenue will have to be found if Revenue Sharing is
<br /> terminated and both organizations are trying. Mr. Henderson
<br /> suggested that since the allocation recommended is less than that
<br /> requested by PROBE, that a further reduction would be difficult for
<br /> that orgamzation to bear _�, r-, , r
<br /> Ilona BatzelT, PROBE, stated that she is a PROBE employee and that
<br /> the organizat�on is attempting to help people help themselves and is
<br /> - worthy of as much support as the City can give �-,
<br /> ' Nita Di Masi, of CEC and La Escuela Cuauhtemoc, spoke against the
<br /> motion an urged the Council to grant the funds requested for 1976-77
