Written Comnunications
1. Letter received June 8, 1976 from Angel Acosta requesting support
' of a B9centennial proect. '
Angel Acosta referred to the, subect letter attaching details
of the proposed Bicentennial proect nvolvng the placement of
a bust of Da Soledad Arguello in the small park in downtown
Redwood City in recognition of the contributions`of that
Spanish-Mexicanfamily to the Redwood City comnunity.
Discussion followed and Mr. Acosta replied'to questions concern-
ing the orgam zations which have given financial or other support
to the proect; the desirability of having such proects funded
by citizens generally to increase their appreciation of it; the
possibility that local service clubs may be willing to contri-
bute to the proect, and the likelihood that both the Civic
Cultural Cortmission and the Redwood City Heritage Association
, would wish to be involved in the proect.
; MOTION: Councilman Norris moved, seconded by Councilman Bury,
that the Council recognizes the meaningful contribution of the
people of Spanish-Mexican heritage to the cormnunity and en-
dorses the concept of appropriate recognition of that contri-
bution at the time of the nation's 200th anniversary.
CLARIFICATION• Councilman Norris stated that it is the intent
' of his motion to encourage organizations in Redwood City to
contribute to the proect proposed by Mr. Acosta.
