He said the Plz,nning Conmission felt thev �vere pro- <br /> tecting the bueiness area, of the cit;� by inaistin� on a 20 foot area for <br /> business and the remainder for light industxy. <br /> It vaas ;the genera,l consenaus of the Covncil that while they vrere not <br /> opposed to the laundry they were opt�osed to spot zonin� and_ i� the t�rhole O <br /> area were rezoned for li�ht industry they �ould be incline,d to favor the <br /> application. Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman PdcP�TUlty, <br /> that the matter be c arried on the a�enda. for further consideration. The <br /> motion pasaed unanimously. <br /> Cduncilman Grar.ger moved that the portion of the minutes in rega.rd <br /> to this matter be referred to the Pla.nnin� Commission so that they mi�ht <br /> be informed of the Council's opinion. There �a�a.s some discussion as to � <br /> what disposition the Pl�.nning Commission should make of this information <br /> a.nd Covncilman Armstron�; stated that personally he vaould. like to e4nress <br /> to the Plar.nin� Commission that 11.Qht industry be confined to an in- <br /> dnstriaZ area, ivhile Councilman Gr�n�;er believed the Plar.nin�; Commission <br /> should work out some plan by which the Council could be guided in all <br /> cases of re2onin�. <br /> Pdr. He said the nronerty in question wae <br /> neither strictly residential or business and he could. see no ob,jection. <br /> to granting the requeat for rezoning. � <br /> City Attorney P,�cCarthy expressed the opinion tha.t there was so much � <br /> vacant property there that there was very little likelihood of a pure busi- <br /> ness concern being interested in locatin�? there unless there vr2.s eome in- <br /> centive for them to do so, which the Planning CoM*�iesion believed could <br /> be accomplished by approving this application.
