City Attorney McCarthy expresaed <br /> the opinion that the matter had not been made clear and that, thereYore, it <br /> vuould be in order for the city to pay the taxes, Councilman Granger moved, <br /> ' seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that the city pay the delinquent county <br /> . tazee on Lots 2, 5, Block 11, Sweeney's Addition in the amount of $81,64. <br /> Mdtion pasaed unanimously. <br /> Application was received from George W. Ipsen for permiseion to operate a rest <br /> ' home at the corner of Heller and Beech 3treets, or at 446 Heller 3treet. � <br /> He stated he would take only aged, convaleacent or paralytic cases and that <br /> theie woul:dtbeenocmental cases^�of any kind, The ordinance provides that <br /> notices must be sent to property ovuners within 275 feet of the property and <br /> a public hearing held before a permit can be granted. Councilman Fletcher <br /> moved, seconded by Councilman Armetrong, that the City Manager notify the <br /> • residents within 275 feet of the property that a public hearing will be <br /> held at the next regular meeting of the Council as to whether a permit will <br /> be granted to Mr. Ipsen for a rest home, Motion paesed unanimously, <br /> Mr, Alldis appeared before the Council requeeting permission to change a sign <br /> Yrom Valota Road to E1 Caanino Real. City Manager Blom adviaed that Mr, <br /> Alldis had aubmitted a letter in regard to hie request. The sign is to be <br /> ' 3 x 6 and tne ordinance requires that a sketch be submitted for signe of <br /> this size, Oouncilman Granger moved the permit be granted in keeping with <br /> the ordinance, seconded by Councilman F'letcher. Motion paseed unanimously, <br /> Councilman Britechgi questioned more than one "For Sale" sign on several <br /> lots. in Edgewood Park. Under tne ordinance only one sign ie allowed, � <br /> Qity Manager Blom advised he would check the eitua.tio.n, <br /> Mr. Milton Hinds appeared before the Council asking that the Council appotnt an <br /> appraiser in regard to acquiring land neceesary for the change in setback <br /> • along James, California and Winklebleck 9treets in accordance with action <br /> taken by the Planning Commiseion. .City Attorney McCarthy advised tnat the <br /> Planning Commission at ite laet meeting had given further coneideration to <br /> changing the aetback along these streets and that, inaemuch ae it would be <br /> necessary to acquire some property t.o change the setback, the Commission <br /> ' had authorized by resolution a motion to request the City Council to appoint <br /> an appraiser to determine tne damage to Miss, Leah Reid's property'and also <br /> the damage to the Southern Pacific Company'e property becauee of taking ten <br /> . feet from the Yronta,ges of their property. Thie resolution ehould have <br /> ' y been before the Council at this_ meeting. Mr, Hinds was asked if ne under- <br /> stood that an assesament dietrict would have to be formed to bear the cost <br /> of taking thia property. Mr. Hinds etated he understood this but also be- <br /> lieved triat tne citp ehould bear part of the coet. Councilman Granger <br /> moved that tne neceseary steps be taken to appoint an appraiser.so that a <br /> report may be given to tne Council as to tne coet to the property owners <br /> a • and the city, Councilman Armstrong.asked wno was to bear tne cost of the <br /> � .. <br /> , <br />
