Councilman Granger moved, seconded by <br /> Councilrnan I�cP.ulty, that the recommendation of the City Mana�er be approved. <br /> . Il�otion passed unanimously. ' <br /> ' Communication was received from Pdrs. L. R. Morehouse, 740 - 5th Avenue, suggest- <br /> ing that the Easter Bowl be named Lambert Howl in memory of the late Charlea <br /> Lambert. Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded,by Councilman P7erder, that �. <br /> the communication be filed. Motion passed unanimously. � <br /> ' A.�Ir. Fred 1'heerr, appeared before the Council requesting permission to operate an <br /> electrical tool repairin� business. He had no definite location in mind and <br /> as there was a question as to whether this activity would be considered a <br /> business or a light industry, Mr. Theem•was asked to present a definite <br /> location at v�hich time the Council uvould take action on,granting the pexmit. <br /> In regard to the conaideration of the final map of Poplar 3ubdiviaion No; 2, <br /> • Acting City Engineer Randlett, asked that action be postponed inaemuch as <br /> the.tentative map cannot be located. City Manager Blom concurred in thia <br /> recommendation and advised that the final map does not include alI the lots <br /> in the area which he believed tivould be desirable and which would necessitate <br /> the signaturea of the owners of these lots. The matter was carried on.the <br /> agenda of the next regular meeting, - <br /> .Mr. Milton Gooding, �danager of the Telephone Company, appeared and explained <br /> ' that the poor telephone serviece rrae due to the ehortage of materia.ls,'strike a <br /> insufficient and inefficient help and the overcrowding of preaent equipment. <br /> � The tremendous increase in population which had not been foreseen resulted <br /> in a great many more calls. Mr. Gooding advised that the installation of <br /> d1a1 telephones is to be begun soon and that a new building.is being erected, <br /> Theae meaeures he wae sure would bring improned service, Mayor Hilton <br /> thanked l�r, Gooding for his rer�arks. <br /> • City A3anager Blom reported that he had discussed t&e matter of traffic eignals <br /> and lighting of E1 Camino Real with a traffic engineer from Colonel Skeggs' <br /> office. The State Highway Department does not look vrith favor on overhead <br /> eignals except in caees where the intersection has been brought up to <br /> standard otherwise. The signal heads v�hich this city is using are not up <br /> � to standard and it was.the recommendation that the city install both right <br /> and left hand signals, which is the most modern installation, and provides <br /> for four signals at each intersection. It vaas hoped to be able to use the <br /> same sta.ndard for both the signal and the lighting which would consist of <br /> , using a metal type pole vrith anc.overhangino light and the signal mounted <br /> on the same pole. Thie plan would eliminate some of the standards which <br /> the city is now using, The State Highway Department indicated tha.t if the <br /> city would lvork up the plans for such an installation, it veill entertain <br /> a request for participation of State Highway funda to the extent of 50 per <br /> cent of the cost. City Manager Blom recommended that the city proceed with <br /> � , such a plan. He stated the intersection at Five Pointa would require more <br /> � <br />
